Interesting write-up, Reece. Thanks for posting that.  Even though it's been over 40 years since I've watched Gunsmoke, I do remember it fairly well.  (I should watch an episode soon just for old times' sake.)  Interesting that during some seasons, as many as 30 westerns were on the air.  I'm pretty sure we watched one every night, although I can't remember the names of all of them.  I should ask my dad.

One of the things I liked about Matt Dillon is that on no occasion did he ever shoot me in the back.

They had principles in them days.

    RIP

Not much of a western watcher, still I do remember those old black and white cowboy flicks and his name rings a bell. A man who leaves a good legacy and lives to be 88..........if only all of us could do the same.

Trivia: the term "get out of Dodge" originate4d from this show..

The Sirius Classic Radio Channel has the radio versions of Gunsmoke aired from time to time , interesting when you have to use your imagination to paint the pictures of the action

I wasn't a huge Gunsmoke fan, but as a tribute to the sheriff I'll dust off my copy of Them!, which terrified me is a youngster.

Wasn't his brother the Mission Impossible guy?

on rare occassions I'll watch a gunsmoke rerun or two on Sunday afternoons during my "nap."  gunsmoke was a good show and James Arness was a good actor.  he will be missed.

Based upon my own highly flawed Internet research, he was also known for some other memorable roles I wasn't even aware he played.

I not sure, but I could be wrong about that last one.

This looks suspiciously like the alien on the twilight zone episode " To Serve Man"
