What's a good plugin for auto-panning?

for some reason, i'm struggling.
 
just looking for a quick auto pan effect, but can't seem to find it in my fx bin list.
 
suggestions?

i am aware that panning technically isn't an effect, but i know i've seen a plugin that automates rapid panning for me without recording the automation. was just hoping someone else could remember too (and tell me which plug in it's buried in)

If not - I am sure there is more to find by just using Google..

You already have one in Sonar, it's called the surrond panner.

Not running in surround? No problem, neither am I. The plug can be used just as effectively on stereo material.

I'm playing around with the Sonitus Surround now.  Has some fun looking presets to it.  Will have to explore more!
Will also check out the Surround panner like you said Bristol.  I need options.

Auto pan is not an effect.  What you want to do is called automation.  Click Automation Write for the track you want to do this to.  It'll turn red.  Play the song and move the pan the way you want it to be throughout the song.  The movements you make will be recorded.  After you stop the song turn off Automation Write and play the song again and it all the panning will be exactly as you did.

 
 
 
This is not quite correct.  Yes you can automate pan or manually manipulate it directly inside Sonar BUT it is a time/spatial based effect and there are many "pan-based" effects VST out there.  The best of which, IMHO, is Pan-Man from Sound Toys (www.soundtoys.com).  I'm sure there are scads of other VSTs that will do all kinds of panning weirdness for you.
 
 
EDIT:  I don't think PanMan is that expensive but if you do want to spring for the big bucks just get the entire Native Effects bundle...it is the best of the best.

You can have up to 16 different patterns that can be switched between using either midi notes or automation envelopes.
