Sonar 8.5 Soft synths not playing with midi files

Hi Chums,

I'm a novice user of Sonar 8.5, I am just using it as accompanyment for my guitar playing. I have downloaded a number of generic files which I can load up and attach soft synths to without any problem. However others work less well i.e. either the soft synth doesnt work, or stops working after a while.
I would appreciate any help on this. Furthermore if anyone has found any good midi download sites that cater for rock music I would appreciate any info.

many thanks

    Hi Folks

    thanks for the replies

Daveny5 I have a similar PC spec as yourself, except I am using a Soundblaster Audigy card.

Beagle I am trying to use simple bass guitar sounds in the Dimension LE soft synth, they seem to work initially, and then stop working.

    cheers

when you're playing the project, does the MIDI meter move during the time it's being played and you're not getting sound out of the softsynth?  try to give us as many details as you can about everything going on.

    ok...not much to go on.

have you tried a different softsynth?  insert TTS-1 instead and route the midi track to it instead of dimle.  does it still do it?

does it stop at the same note every time?
have you looked at the velocities of the notes and make sure they're not below some threshold that dimle's bass can't play?
how about the note values themselves?  are they maybe out of range for the bass in dimle?  (if so then TTS-1 would play them all)

is it consistent or is it random?
    does it ever come back?
what happens when you stop the transport and start it again?
what happens if you stop the transport, rewind and start agian?

please try some things and give me as much info as you can on what you've tried and what happens with each thing.

Hi Beagle, Yes TTS-1 does work. I dont think it is the range because the track initially plays back OK with DIMLE. But then after one play back, it can no longer be heard. If I load the raw file back in again it does exactly the same thing again. I have read elsewhere on this forum that there can be extra information at the beginning of a midi file that can interfere with patches. Hence I will check this out.

    many thanks
