Distorted Recording Signal Please Help!

I am about to go back to recording on my Boss BR-1180 if I can't get this figured out soon.

When recording an incoming signal I can't get rid of a scratchy/crackling distortion over my sound. I have run tests with my incoming signal processors and the distortion is narrowed down to either my sound card or Sonar.
I've tried every combination I can think of in the Audio settings. Sometimes the signal will come through clear for about two minutes and then revert back to the distortion.
Also I haven't noticed the problem when playing back tracks that don't originally have the distortion. It only comes when I'm running a new signal whether I have echo turned on or not to monitor it.
The only plug-ins I am using right now are Session Drummer and occasionaly Boost 11 but only applied to a previously recorded track.

Please let me know if you have any ideas or if the combination of my rig, PC and software doesn't work. I am open to suggestions but don't have cash right now to buy more equipment. I would think this would be a sufficient rig for simple recording...

First go through the suggested steps here: http://www.cakewalk.com/S...m=asio&man=M-Audio

Sometimes the signal will come through clear for about two minutes and then revert back to the distortion.

This sounds like there might some other process or something on your computer interfering, if you haven't already done so make sure that any unnecessary start up programs and other applications are closed.

    Thanks for the reply Willy.
I've gone through and rechecked all the settings as described in the link. I also made sure no extra programs were running. I'm going to try reinstalling the driver for the Delta 1010LT and see if that helps.
In the mean time are there any other suggestions? Should my system be capable of handling normal one-track-at-a-time recording

    KingH,

your system is fine.  The Delta is kinda old but shouldn't have distorition.  Have you checked your Delta mixer - it sounds like too much level there or how it inputs into SONAR.  Computer recording is different than stand alone simply because you have so many variables where signals can get overdriven.  Basically, a clean signal goes into the delta - you say you've checked that.  The next step is to make sure the Delta isn't feeding back a signal or a level is set too high there.  If that is fine, you should get a clean level in SONAR and distortion/overs should be obvious in the meters of SONAR.  W/ 24 bit recording you don't need to get anywhere near the red - most signals are fine -12 to -18 dBs down in the meters.

If your track input meters look fine but sound bad, make sure the signal isn't feeding back into the delta inputs or any kind of loop back.  Also make sure your buses and sends are all off - except for the main.

IF that doesn't help, let us know.
