audio format

Hi,

I recently upgraded to producer 8.5 from sonar 3--I found that a lot of the sonar on board plugins like some of the drum files would not work--got a message that they were not supported by the format--I also find that i cant use a lot of my older software like waves (ouch) with this program as it currently sits.  I did a little exploring and .found that sonar was set at 24 bit.  I thought I might change it to 32bit to see if things worked better, so I went "tools/change audio format/and when I set it up to change to 32 I got the following message"Warning-this command will clear the clipboard and the "undo" history and cannot be undone later"

so I backed out and made no changes--

If I make this change, will  I lose all current projects stored in sonar?  (that happened to me once before and I never want to go thru that again)

thank you,
flojo

those messages are strange.  the clipboard and undo history shouldn't be affected by changing from 24bit to 32bit editing format.

when you say "on board plugins like some of the drum files" - I don't understand that.  what "on board plugins" are you talking about?

also, give us some details about your system.  which operating systems specifically?  and if you have a 64bit OS, are you using Sonar 8.5 in 64bit mode or 32bit mode?

and I really have to know which "plugins" and drum files you're talking about.

when I try to open the step sequence patterns I get a message "cannot find or open files"

I am really not a computer guy, more songwriter but I have been working in sonar and before that in pro audio and am usually happy with the results--I just am having a lot of trouble programming midi drums as I have never done that before, always used recorded drum so I am in need of education.  since I went to the new sonar and the 64 bit windows some of my old software does not work and I was wondering if the 6 4 bit could be causing issues

    thanks for any info

    Hey Flojo,

Waves not working, ooogh, thats nasty, however waves should work with 16,24 and 32bit without any problems. As for 64bit it depends on bitbridge as waves have yet to go to 64bit.

If I were you (I know I'm not) I'd go back to a 32bit operating system. There is no tangible difference between 32/24bits recordings and 64bit systems.

    Sometimes even prestige is ****.

thanks rodar6, I was thinking of going back to 32 bit but not sure how to do it--do I need to buy a  new windows 7 that is 32 bit? will I cause problems with projects already started in the new 64 bit? I am poorly educated in these things-

If I'm not mistaken, you should have both 32/64 bit. Go to Start, on the left click on computer, then double click on your c? drive, you should see Program files, and Program filesx86, the x86 being 32 bit programs. When you install Sonar( been a long time), doesn't it have a choice to install in 32 or 64bit? Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can help you more, but I think thats partly correct. Also you can have some 32 bit plugins work in x64 through bitbridge, and even more through J-Bridge. I have Windows Home Premium, a couple steps lower than you, and I don't have many problems running in 64 bit. I hope you get it figured out, and someone chimes in with exact info for you, good luck. PS-64 bit allows so much more options if you can get it sorted out.

you had to install them separately - there is an option on the install window.
