Transferring Sonar 8.5 to new computer

Sorry if this displays my computer ignorance, but how will I transfer my Sonar 8.5 to the new computer I am getting. It is registered to the computer I am currently using. Obviously my e-mail remains the same. Will it just be a case of re-activating it once it is transferred to the new hard drive?
 
Alternatively I have been considering upgrading to the new Sonar. Would this make things any simpler?

    hi dangoude-hope this is not a trick question as i am desperately trying to raise my post counts so i can become a Gold Member when i grow up.
    i understood you purchase the license from Roland to use the software:you do not own it but you may install it wherever as long as you only use it on ONE computer at a time.where possible your  music pc should not be connected to the internet.

    I ask myself the same question whenever i upgrade the Ferrari and my opinion is "no"

    The software is registered to you and is not specific to one computer.  You can even have it installed on more than one PC (provided that you only ever run one of them at a time).  After installing, you will need to use the same code that you were given when you first registered.

    It's the best feature of Sonar.  Sonar uses the serial number and activation code, You do not need to be on the internet to activate. Sonar will load and run on as many computers as you wish. By agreement you are only allowed to use one at a time, So you can keep your old computer as a back up. Upgrading makes no difference in this case. You will still only own one licence unless you re purchase the whole complete software package.

    Im pretty sure it says you can have it installed on 2 different computers at one time and you can only use one pc at a time.

    Remember to save your templates, drum maps, custom presets and what ever else you may have customized, so you can transfer it to your other pc.

    I have Sonar X1.  I copy my Sonar files (Saved the normal Cakewalk method) onto a portable hard drive.  I installed X1 on a new computer and copied the files onto the new computer.
     
    It shows the file, the tracks, the plug-ins, but the recorded data is not on the tracks.
     
    What can I do to successfully transfer my song files to my new computer with X1?

    The easiest way is to make sure that you have "Use Per Project Files" in Preferences and then save each project again on the old system. Make sure you have "Copy all Audio with Project" checked in the "Save As" dialogue box.
     
    Transfer those project folders to the new one, they will include the "Audio" folder in each project.
     
    Alternatively locate your "Global Audio Folder" on the old system (it's path will be in prefs - can't remember the default as I change mine) and copy the entire contents of that to the new system and then make sure that path is set in prefs on the new system, or point Sonar to it when it opens a project and complains about missing audio, it will ask you for location paths.
