[Solved] Sonar taking exclusivity on computer sound output

I'm very pleased about the program so far, but something odd is happening -- when Sonar is open and active, only Sonar-related outputs will make sounds, while all other programs become silent. When I exit Sonar, sounds for all other programs begin to work again. This also happens vice-versa.

I'm using an external audio interface, which runs through ASIO4ALL. In Playback devices, I unchecked the "Allow applications to take exclusive control" on the speaker device.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks a lot for your time in advance!

You could enable Share Drivers With Other Programs in Options>Audio>Advanced tab and see if that helps.

What kind of external interface are you using? What other software do you want to play sounds while Sonar is open?

Hm, I enabled it and it's still doing it. The external interface is Icon Firexon, and the other softwares I wanted to play while Sonar is open are things like Youtube for watching tutorials as I'm trying things out.

Something I noticed is that, perhaps since I'm using ASIO4ALL, the sound that comes from Sonar doesn't show in the volume control (i.e. how when there're sounds going on, the green bar inside volume indicator jumps up), but other sources e.g. Youtube does show up in there.

If it helps: In Sonar's Aduio Options, Playback and Record timing masters are all set to ASIO4ALL v2 BCo #FireXon Line[1]1

Ah, solved. It's a matter of ASIO4ALL requiring exclusive use of the audio device. :) Cheers~

Just curious... do you prefer using ASIO4ALL to real ASIO?

I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to those, so I just downloaded it since it was what I used to use. But I just switched to the ASIO that came with the audio interface and it seems to be working well. Is there a way of definitively comparing their performance?
