Pitch bending afterwards
If you're playing a controller, you can push the pitch wheel to bend a note during the performance. What if I forgot the bend, how can I bend the note after the performance? Presumably, I would have to insert a series of wheel events but where/how would I do that? Thanks - rev

You could insert the wheel events manually, but you can also record them just as you would had you not forgotten. Just arm the track for recording, make sure it's set to "blend" or "sound on sound", can't remember which, and record just the bend. DON'T hit any keys!!!

Thanks - when you say 'manually' - you mean with a brush tool or something like that? How would I control the pitch itself, i.e. let's say I want to bend a full tone, no more or less. I wouldn't have much chance with the wheel in real time because I'm a keyboard player. I suppose I could keep trying over and over but is there a precise, first-time method?

You can also manually insert PW events in the PRV. I suggest turning Snap to Grid OFF while entering controller data. 1. Click the box labeled Notes/Velocity and select New Value Type. Click OK. 2. In the Midi Event Box select Wheel. Click OK. 3. Now you will have a Pitch Wheel view in the Controller Pane. 4. Click the little box (Show/Hide Midi Events) right above the first box you clicked to show/hide Velocity, Wheel, or any other events you have entered in the controller pane. When I'm editing cc events I like ONLY those events showing.

Revnice1 – you can do this by using Bristol_Jonesy’s method. Select and arm you track, make sure you are set for "sound on sound" and while listening to your track you can use the pitch bend. He said, "DON’T hit any keys" because sound on sound recording will record anything you do and add it to the original track, pitch bends, notes, mod wheel, faders etc.. You can set your pitch wheel limits in your sound source, at least most of the time you can. You didn’t mention what that was so you will have to look but most all of what I have has pitch wheel upper and lower limit settings. Just set those to a whole tone. Or you can record full up and down pitch bends with what you have now, go to interpolate and change the recorded limits there. I have to do that a lot with my wind controller. I sometimes get over active with my pitch bends! I hope this helps - MarioD

Forgive me but I have a ? regarding producer 8.5. I am using a M-Audio Fast Track Pro usb audio interface, XP pro service pack 3, intel 2 processor with 2 gig ram, clock is 1.67 gighz. I've setup my hardware before with a little help from a friend who is out of the country. I was trying to listen to the metronome during recording and changed some settings apparently. I got to hear the metronome but lost the waveforms in the recording. Now after two days of searching everywhere in manuals and forums I've lost the ability to record, hear metronome, and all I'm left with is a nice vu meter. I can hear the input but it doesn't show or record. I believe the crux of my problem is trying to get the ins and outs correct on the M-audio i-face. I set the advanced audio option to asio but then it says my usb device doesn't have asio capabilities. M-audio manuals don't really give me a clear picture of how to exactly set this up with Cakewalk. Please help with proper input and output settings. I've downloaded the lates drivers I could find.

asio but then it says my usb device doesn't have asio capabilities Sure it does. Do you have another USB device that could be interfering? If not, switch to WDM. That should work, but ASIO is better. Also check the M-Audio Control Panel to make sure its working.

ive never tried it with a pitch wheel, but could you maybe "write" enable the track, record your pitch wheel, then write enable?

illtechstudios ive never tried it with a pitch wheel, but could you maybe "write" enable the track, record your pitch wheel, then write enable? I do this all the time. Just set the midi track to " SHOW LAYERS", Transport to Sound on Sound and enable record. Record all the pitch wheel events you want to. You'll see them as you record too.

We are assuming you recorded to a MIDI track not an audio track.

Good point Dave - that was my assumption. If it's audio he's trying to bend, well, that's a whole different can of worms

Thanks so much. I'm brand new at Sonar. After 3 days of going over tutorials, installing and reinstalling software, checking every advanced setting in my computer and the software, and reading manuals and help files, I found I was pressing the spacebar instead of the R to start recording. Someday I'll try to return the favor. If you ever need a harmonica fill, let me know.
