Some issues with MC, SHS 6 and Win 7 64-bit
So I've got MC Pro 24 and SHS 6 on my new 64-bit computer working in 32-bit mode, but I seem to be able to only use the MME audio driver. ASIO and WDM/KS are other options on the list but I get the 'can't use those' message when trying to change from MME. I'm wondering if those will only work in 64-bit mode (for SHS; Pro 24 has no 64-bit option). No problem, really, since my other computer is the DAW, just wondering. Also I downloaded the Ozone demo for my other computer. Now what do I do with it?

SHS6 should be able to work in 32bit mode on a 64bit computer in any driver mode, but you have to make sure you have the 64bit drivers for your soundcard. if it's not working, the only other think I can think of would be UAC. I turned that crap off immediately. it's not for intelligent users. read into that what you will. I seriously doubt MC Pro 24 will work at all, if it works in MME that may be all you get. I've seen people trying to use MC2 & 3 on a 64bit system and they get the program to run but cannot get any recording or playback on it. ozone is an excellent program! just use it on tracks and master bus and just play with the gazillions of presets it has and hear the differences!

Ozone is so sweet. I like to insert it into the MASTER FX bin of my projects. Open the presets and look for ROCK MASTER 4 BAND or something similar. select it and click OK. Now.... hit the bypass on it and click playback. You are hearing the music BEFORE O4.... now while it is playing...click the bypass button again to turn O4 on..... you can hear a big difference. As you play with it, you will start tweezing the presets and when you find something you like...simply save it with a new name and it's a new starting point/preset for you. It can also be used in tracks. I use it on vocal tracks mainly and in the master buss.

Yeah, I loaded it on the DAW last night and the difference is amazing. While it won't make my singing any better, it sure brightens up the song. And the exact message I get when trying to change driver modes is "There are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system. Please go to Options|Audio and choose a different driver model." Sorry for the incorrect words, Beag, it doesn't appear to be a UAC thing. It turned UAC off and got the same message, so it's the sound card, I think. RealTek. So last century. I tried updating the RealTek drivers but it says I have the latest drivers. Also used the Cakewalk Driver Mode Changer and that worked; it changed the driver but I still got the 'choose a different driver model' message. I'm not going to worry about it until I need to, whent the old computer dies and I have to get another interface (keeping fingers crossed).

yep - that sounds like it's the soundcard (drivers). doesn't the new computer have firewire? it'd be easy to plug the saffire into it if you do.

Nah. I was looking for an internet computer, but BB didn't have a single box with FireWire. So I got one of the cheapest ones they had. My next DAW computer will be made as a DAW, either a build like you guys did or one of the ready-made machines. Loving Ozone. I might have to break out the plastic.

Yup... you made your first mistake when you downloaded Ozone. They know that when you try it, you're gonna beg borrow or steal to buy it.

I installed the 64-bit version of SHS 6 and WDM does work in that program. But I get some of the problems that others have reported recently; audio meters don't work; soft synths sometimes don't work; jumpy graphics; all kinds of things which leads me to the inevitable: upgrade the program if I want to use this computer for a DAW. Which I don't unless something catastrophic occurs. Funny though that I could remove SHS 64-bit from the computer, but I can't remove SHS 32-bit. Access Denied. With UAC on or off. No worries, though. Just playing around.

Just playing around. did you install the latest update? never heard of anyone having any problems with uninstalling SHS! also - regarding putting the saffire on the new computer; do you have a free PCI or PCIe slot? you can buy a firewire card to put in it. that's what I did. even tho my motherboard comes with firewire, it was a VIA chipset and I was getting pops and crackles, so I bought a PCI firewire card (TI) and it works great. you have to be careful what you buy, tho, if you're interested in doing that, I'll point you to a thread where I talked about my problems. I went thru 3 cards before I got the right one.

Yes, it has the update. It wouldn't uninstall from either the Cakewalk uninstaller or the Windows Add/Remove programs thingy. i'll just continue using it as a reference for helping others. And a FireWire card is a possibility, if necessary. I have the free slot.

Something weird happened to my SHS on Win 7 machine. When I installed it, I checked that all the soft synths and effects worked. TTS-1 worked from the Insert menu, just like the other DX and VST synths. Now, it's not in the soft synth list; it's in the DX effects list, though. Who moved my cheese TTS-1?

A little quirk that just developed on my DAW (XP 32-bit SP3). Opened a project Saturday and all of the MIDI icons in the Track pane had changed to down arrow icons. The audio icons in the Track view were still there, but all the audio icons in the Bus pane had also changed to down arrows. ??? All of my recent projects were like that, but some from a few years ago had the normal icons. I could change the icons back to the normal pics. Just wondering if only cranking up the DAW a couple times a week is somehow causing data to be lost, or if there might be some sort of memory problem. Everything works, just this little glitch has me concerned about possible future problems. My weekend starts tomorrow, so I'm going to back everything up to my external HD. I know, I should have already done that.
