Does Pentagon vocoder work on W7/64 X1 64 bit?

I had a project which I started in S7 on 32 bits where one of the key parts was a rhythmic bit where I vocoded a drum loop with Pentagon.  I reopened this project in X1 and the vocoder was not working.    It seemed to work okay in S7 though.

I haven't had any problems with Pentagon otherwise.  Is this a known issue with Pentagon's vocoder?

You can disable UAC or Just run as administrator. This should fix your issue, if its not running in 64bit

The DXi version won't work for me under win7 64bit. period. I actually bought Pentagon (when it was only $15 for sale) just to get the VST version so it would work and now it does. The VST version works fine in vocoder mode.

I've never used Pentagon before, so thought I'd take a look at it.  But it's causing the same sort of problems.  It seems to load, but then X1 hangs.  I'm running X1P B x 64 under Win7x64, as an administrator.  There are two dll's, P1DXi and Pentagon I.dll,  each dated in 2006 and in the shared DXi folder, so I'm thinking the new VST didn't get installed.  (Don't recall omitting it, but maybe I did.)  My X1 install was by download upgrade (from 8.5.3).

So I'd like to try a selective install, but don't want to screw up what is so far an otherwise stable and patched X1 install.   Does anyone recall which download file I need to run in order to do a custom install for only Pentagon?

Assuming I get it installed ok, how do you use it as a vocoder?  I don't see a preset with that name.  As FX rather than instrument?

    Thx,  Ron

EDIT:  Guess this answers my second question.

I have just installed Sonar 8.5.3 64 bit on a new 64 bit Win 7 laptop.  Pentagon worked straight out of the box and was installed as a 64 bit DXi by default. I know a lot of people have problems with Pentagon I in 64 bit but you can make it work.

As for the OPs question about using it as a Vocoder, that is something I have not tried.

    OP here following up.

Here is the procedure to get Pentagon to work as a vocoder, and some observations.

    1. Start by creating one midi and one audio track.  The output of the midi track should feed into the input of the audio track.  An easy way to do this is to load the "Normal" template when opening a new file.
    2. Insert Pentagon into FX bin of audio track.
    3. Choose a patch.
    4. Click on the space near the bottom center of the screen which says Pentagon I to select the menu item for "Voice Modulator".  Turn this to on.
    5. Drag an audio clip onto the audio track.
    6. Press Play on transport.
    7. Play something on keyboard.

Here are some observations on things that seem to cause problems.

    • I was able to do the above process with the DXi version, but not VST.  For some reason, the VST version did not seem to go into "Voice Modulator" mode.  It would simply play like a normal synth.
    • Do not turn on 2x Oversampling.  When I did this, I would get a low pitched blip, followed by no sound.  Furthermore, the problem persisted when I turned off the oversampling.
    • As CJ pointed out above, make sure that you are set to run Sonar X1 as an administrator.

Thanks for the detailed advice.  I'm sure it will be handy.

Right now, I'm just trying to figure out where is the 64 bit VST for Pentagon.  ie. does it install from the X1 upgrade or was it supposed to be installed in my 8.5 upgrade, both of which were 64 bit and done by download.  Either way, I don't seem to have the 64 bit version, only 32 bit, presumably from an even earlier version.  I don't want to rerun any more of those downloads than absolutely necessary.  Even if I just choose only the Pentagon from the custom install menu, I'm not clear whether my (patched to 255) X1 install will remain intact.

Am running a backup now, then guess I'll give it a try.

AFAIK, there isn't one and won't ever be. Pentagon has been around for a looooong time. The 32 bit version works just fine under 64bit sonar.

The 32 bit version works just fine under 64bit sonar.

Thought I'd tack on a bump for future searchers.  It appears the Pentagon VST causes a hang if I add it to a test project originated in 8.5.3, being reworked in X1x64 (run as administrator).  But it seems to work fine in a new project.  X1P 255x64, as you say.  I don't understand what there is about a 8.5=> X1 converted file that should make it "different" from an "all X1" file, but there you go.  I think others have reported similar situations.

Also, guess I misinterpreted something in this thread and thought there was a 64 bit Pentagon VST that I'd missed in the X1 upgrade.  No such animal, apparently.
