blinking line with magnifying glass

what is this blinking line with what appears to be magnifying glass doing in my track view.  It seems to be on one clip but stays there if Idrag the clip away I think it is at one point in that track

      It seems to be related to splitting clips.  If I split another clip in that track it splits at the point of the blinking line.  If I drag the clip away from where it is it stays in that spot.  I alsop can't split from the edit menu.  this thing is driving me freaking nuts.

    Did you hit the 0 key on your number pad? That brings up the keyboard editing cursor, which has a few modes. One of the modes is the line with a magnifying glass.  It's mainly there for control surface support, but you can do keyboard editing in that mode.

    Press 0 on the number pad again to turn it off.
