Time/Pitch Stretch 2 - REPORTED! Don't try this at home
hi there,... can you verify something for me please ? There's def. something wrong with the Time/Pitch Stretch2 Process. Sonar might even crash on you and I'd recommend to save the project before using this "plug in". (or just create a new project, or just don't bother with it at all until it's fixed!) But then I hope Cakewalk will fix it soon as this issue might not only be valid for this certain plugin but also for others, besides that the time/pitch-stretch function can be a really creative instrument. Again "sorry" to Forummember Bub who lost 2 hours worth of vocals while tracking down the issue for me - I really feel bad about this! Cakewalks Time/Pitch Stretch 2 Plugin is not quite working for me as it had in previous versions of sonar.. I have the very latest patches installed. 2 issues.. the 1st time I've tried using the "plug in" the cliplength would not correspond to the clipcontent.. meaning that the clip would overlap by several measures with emptiness (I could not reproduce this yet again) now the more severe issue.. you stretch a clip by 200%, that would result in a stretched clip that would be twice as long as the original clip (200%..), wouldn't it ? yeah it would.. but instead it has the same length as the original clip and cuts the audio after halfway through.. the workflow: add a clip (vocals prefered) cut/trim a single word from the vocal track right click the clip -> process audio -> cakewalk -> time/pitch stretch 2-> move the horizontal slider to 200% (time)-> click "ok" now I only hear half of the word in half speed, instead of the complete word in half speed.. anyone else ? and yes I know about the [ctrl]-trim/stretch clip option, I am not looking for a workaround. thx

2nd issue confirmed. It appears SONAR is failing to increase the length of the clip to accommodate the stretched audio. If you manually slip-edit the clip boundary to the right, the audio is there.

I think that the audio to the right is also unprocessed, there appears to be all kind of weirdness when manually slip editing (like having a "cut" while slip-editing) hm.. a bit annoying as I just wanted to start a new song idea with time and pitch stretching.. oh well.. must be a sign then..

And the algorithm actually sounded pretty reasonable on a vocal. Not so good for percussive material, though.

What's the trick to getting Time/Pitch 2 plugin to work? I've never been able to get it to load in any version of Sonar.

hm.. I reported the issue anyway.. when I expand the clip to the right I get different results, but it seems that - at least for me- the other half of the clip is missing. and then look at this screen shot.. this is really weird.. this is a MONO vocal line.. I applied time/pitch to the clip then I got a stereo clip (instead of previous mono) I then manually slip edited to the right and got the original mono clip again.. half of the word is missing in the vocalline anyway..

@Bub right click the clip -> process audio -> cakewalk -> time/pitch stretch 2 and then just play with the sliders and use pre-listen/preview (I am using a german version, sorry) to hear the effect.. and "ok" to confirm pretty straight forward (at least it used to be), and it really really is a cool effect, worth having it fixed. Edit only tested it with 32bit versions of Sonar.. might be that 64bit behaves different

Strange. I get an all-mono clip if the track interleave is mono, and an all-stereo clip if the interleave is stereo. And the complete stretched audio clip is there in both cases with no discontinuity at the boundary.

(I am using a german version, sorry) Is this maybe another Sandy Bridge side-effect? Seems that processor and the problems running SONAR on it are more common with Euro users.

I forgot to save about 2 hours worth of vocal takes I just did and Sonar crashed when I tried to adjust the settings on the Pitch 2. I lost it all. Unbelievable.

you stretch a clip by 200%, that would result in a stretched clip that would be twice as long as the original clip (200%..), wouldn't it ? yeah it would.. but instead it has the same length as the original clip and cuts the audio after halfway through.. I have had this problem for ages, I believe since sonar xl (was it called that?). I always thought it was me...

Semi- OT Yo Bub: I am sorry for your loss. My experience: Auto-save has saved my turkey bacon more than once. It only takes about 10 seconds, happens after 40 changes, or 3 minutes. And versions are you friend, as well. Little interference for peace of mind. And: I NEVER use SAVE. Save is distructive and should require confirmation. I remove ALL save buttons from ALL applications (word, xl,...) on my computers and suggest it for ALL my clients. Some believe. Others call for help in recovering corrupted files they have saved repeatedly, all day long,... I use SAVE-AS and save to a slightly different name every 5 - 10 minutes. Of course all of this results in dozens of project files. But they are small (1-10 meg) and I delete them when no longer needed. Us old programmers learned long ago to do this to NOT lose variations of code. And to not have only ONE corrupted file of a project. J
