Help... My Sonar Quit Playing Nice

I've been using Sonar X1 for a while and have had good luck with settings and everything.  Yesterday, I got rid of my Oxygen 61 and hooked up an Axiom 49 2nd gen...

When I start a NEW file/project, I can insert a soft synth and peck away at the keyboard... for every peck is an equal sound (time wise)  seems instantaneous... here's the problem,

when I go to any recent project and start playback, THEN start pecking away at the keyboard... all notes are DELAYED.  when I try Session Drummer 3 and the pads on the axiom.... DELAYED.... it's maybe between a half and a whole beat difference...

I've always managed to play guitar with Guitar Rig 4 along with the playback... not anymore, it's off as well.

Since the guitar rig has nothing to do with the axiom... I was wondering if I've screwed up a setting, if so, what... where do I look to fix the latency in the midi playback and the guitar rig playback???

Tried changing some syncing and caching changes... no such luck... latency is still there.

I also turned of the Axiom and started sonar... that didn't help either

This is from Sync and Caching

    Full Chase Lock
    Timing Offset 0.000

Ask first, then switch clock source and start

Switch current clock source and start playback

Playback I/O buffer size 256..... record I/O Buffer Size 256

    Use ASIO Reported Latency:  364

    Driver mode... ASIO

I've had the same settings for months... that's why this is weirding me out just a bit...

364 samples will give you about 19 or 20 milliseconds' roundtrip latency, long enough to be heard as a discrete echo. For realtime playing of soft synths, you'll need to set your buffers lower. Set them as low as you can before dropouts begin.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

guys I appreciate your help.... here is what I've done...

I exported the TRACKS of the project that I was working on....
    Closed that project
    Created a new project.
Brought back every one of the audio files
    Inserted my Session Drummer 3
And my Dimension Pro = Grand Piano sound....

NOW ---- everything plays in sync... nothing is off kilter... it's like I never had a problem...

I just cant use the old project? I guess?  Any thoughts on what caused that?

Another possibility is delay compensation for one of your plugins. For example, if you have Ozone on the master output, it applies some delay compensation and gives the sort of symptoms you are experiencing. It happened to me recently and took a while to track down. I now turn Ozone off if trying to play live/record. There's a button in the Mix Module of the Control Bar at the top that is supposed to help with this sort of thing, but maybe only for the live input. I don't remember it helping with my Ozone issue. Might be worth reading up on this in the manual. At the very least, push the PDC button and see what happens :)

    Cheers, Peter.

    Pete, Bit, Sharp... thanks

I hit the PDC button... it gave me the control back... but it really boogered the sound to no end... then

I started deleting VST's / FX and turning off pro channel features...  The CULPRIT is the TS64 - Transient Shaper... I liked what it did for my drum sound, but oh my goodness... I didn't realize how bad one plugin could screw the whole thing up.  I inserted everything else back in and now I'm going to try the Percussion Strip 64 and I still have midi capabilities ...

So thanks for the suggestions.  It helped...

    I'm a little puzzled here...
The answers are as if it was normal that "all" SONAR settings have to be changed when you plug in a new MIDI-controller keyboard????

How can plugging in a new keyboard change SONARS latencies etc and make old projects unusable??

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

The only reason I jumped on the midi latency / settings as a possible solution was that I went to a better / upgraded type of controller - Oxygen61 (cheap) to the Axiom49 (mid-grade) which has USB interface but also has something called directlink to communicate with DAWs.  The change from the one to the other was the only change I had made to the project from the day before.  I had some quirks to work through to get the Axiom to work with Sonar but I worked through it using "Test" projects rather than one I was working on.  When I clicked on a project that I had been working on the day before... as long as I was not playing back sound or trying to record, the keyboard was responsive and FINE...  when I went to play back or record... half a beat delay.... when I listened to what I had just recorded, it all blended in where it was supposed to but it was so unnerving while trying to play with play back that I knew there had to be an error somewhere.

The REAL problem was TS64 - a vst effect / plug-in.  I've used that plugin before and have never noticed a delay or a change in behavior UNTIL yesterday.  Once that plugin was removed I started re-inserting everything else... didn't have a single problem the rest of the day.  Peter turned me to the PDC key.  It gave me control of my sound through the keyboard but really warped everything else.  So I started eliminating "turned on" instances of vst's and effects until I found the one that was giving me all of the headache.
