[ctrl]-[L] where's the trick with loops ?

hmpf,...

some issues I am having..
I am extracting a certain passage from a song to make a loop, starting with a standard wav-file.
That clip has a certain length, I don't really care for the projects tempo and alignment within the timeline..
looks something like this:

Now I want to make this clip LOOP -> [ctrl]-[L]
this is what happens:

the loop would run/repeat faster than if I'd copy and paste the original clip manually..
I've tried the "permanent cut to length"(?) option (right click on the clip menu), which gives me even more issues and doesn't work either..
what am I missing ?
thank you..

try bouncing it to clips first, then to a loop.

I don't really care for the projects tempo and alignment within the timeline.

You might not, but SONAR does.

Groove Clip Looping assumes you want the clip to fit the project rhythmically somehow, so when you convert to a Groove Clip, it stretches or compresses it to fit the nearest beat or measure boundary, depending on the tempo of the project you bring it into. I don't think there's any way to defeat this.

If the clip were going to be the only loop in the project you could use Set Measure/Beat At Now to set the project tempo to make the clip fit exactly 1, 2 or 4 beats and then SONAR would leave the length as-is when you enable Groove Clipping. But if you want to compose a project of many loops  with freeform timing, I think you're out of luck with Groove Clipping, and will have to use Copy-Paste.

I give up..
If the clip were going to be the only loop in the project you could use Set Measure/Beat At Now to set the project tempo to make the clip fit exactly 1, 2 or 4 beats and then SONAR would leave the length as-is when you enable Groove Clipping

I get the idea, but I still didn't get it to work,..
I rarely use groove clips so I'll just stick to manually loop/align the clips..
anyway thanks for the help.

Looking at the clip in your first post, it appears to be about 1.36 seconds long. That works out to about 2 beats of 4/4 at 88 BPM.

So if you were to drag the clip to start on a measure line, Use Set Measure.Beat At Now to set that point, and then go to the end of the clip (F8 for me, but re-mapped my X1 hotkeys to be like 8.5) and set that point to beat 3 in the same measure, you should end up with a clip that's exactly a measure long with a tempo around 88. You can then Groove Clip it, and it shouldn't change.

If you don't start this exercise with the clip at 1:01:000, you'll want to go back to the beginning of the project, and change the initial tempo to match the tempos established by the clip.
