Dropout issues

I am using Producer 8.5.3 with a Tascam 3200 as the "soundcard".

So far this project only has like six tracks.

I am constantly getting DROPOUT and Engine Off / On messages.

I have worked with this setup without issue, but something has happened
and I would love to have some hints / assistance in fixing this once and for
all.

Many thanks for any assist.

The more detail you give of your set up the faster your problem will be solved. You have given us nothing to go on. Please list your computer specs, interface, driver mode, date of birth, and mothers maiden name.
    Dropouts are Hardware related.

Yes, so sorry, I guess that would be better,.. ;-)

Intel Quad core, 8 gigs of ram, 500 gig drives, 7200 RPM,
Dual 23" Acer monitors, wireless keyboard/mouse
connected via Firewire to the Tascam 3200 using ASIO drivers.
Tascam is set to 16 channel mode for now. (32 channel mode
not necessary, so 16 in, 16 out is plenty.)

I was born the day after dirt, and my mother was never a maiden. ;-)

Hardware related,...CPU / Memory,..?? or more of the interface(s)
between the computer and the Tascam,..?? There are TONS of settings
for those two, so I may have to consult with Tascam to make sure we
have everything set right there....there has been a pesky problem with
a Line 6 UX interface taking over the ASIO driver position when it's
plugged up...wonder if this is causing more problem than I know,...

    Many thanks,...

there has been a pesky problem with
a Line 6 UX interface taking over the ASIO driver position when it's
    plugged up...

ASIO only supports one card at a time, so you need to decide what card you want to use and disable the one your not using. Otherwise one can take over and that one may not be the one you want. WDM driver modes supports multiple cards at one time, ASIO doesnt..

As far as the drop outs, just raise your tascam ASIO buffer, clicking the ASIO tab in options/audio menu. if its at 64, raise it to 96 or 256 or 512. what ever setting works best is what you need to set it to. There is no one setting fits all.
If your tascam is firewire, you should get a TI firewire chipset card for your pc.

I am using Sonar Producer and running a Tascam US1641 for audio interface.  I'm using this for our band as backing tracks.  I converted all of our midis into separate wav files and was getting dropouts.  The only thing I found was that after loading the song some of the tracks were showing "Busy".  Once I waited until they were loaded fully the problem stopped.

I didn't notice it at first because I had the console screen up which hid the tracks.

Not sure if this is helpful but thought I would throw it out there just in case it is.

Thanks Keith, yeah if your rendering you might wanna wait,.. ;-)

Called Tascam yesterday, and all they said was change our your Firewire
card in the computer to an Adaptec.

I did / found an update last night to the Line 6 drivers / software, and loaded
that,...still removed them from the computer and otherwise disabled them,
left it unplugged, and changed some ASIO driver setting to see if I can
see a difference, and so far I have no dropout, so I will have to circle back
around and find out which one makes all the difference.

I need to get this one project finished first, then it's investigation time.

    Thanks to all,....
