Soundcards fighting it out,...Tascam 3200 -vs- Line 6 UX

I am using Sonar Producer 8.5.3 with a Tascam 3200 console as the sound card.
This works fine, at least until I hook up the Line6 UX, and it "takes"over as the
sound card, and only shows its five inputs as opposed to the 32 normally shown
by the Tascam 3200.

How can I "force" Sonar to ALWAYS use the Tascam and NEVER use the Line6 ?
I run the Line 6 into the Tascam as audio inputs, so don't want to use it as an
AD or DA ever,...

I would like to leave the Line 6 hooked up for guitar / bass, etc things, but do not
want this "soundcard" hassle that it currently gives me,...

Many thanks for any assistance,...

Apparently you can only have one devise under ASIO.
You can try using ASIO4all which is a wrapper for W??/KS mode, but then there are other issues because bottom line is ASIO is the best mode to use.

WDM driver mode suppports multiple sound cards. ASIO does not. So you could try WDM or just settle on one sound card, like 98.9% of us do.

I use my Digitech RP350 connected to my computer via USB while recording with ASIO all the time. The trick is to start Sonar first with the Line 6 device NOT connected. Check the Sonar Audio Options>Drivers tab to make sure only your Tascam drivers are enabled and close the Audio Options. THEN connect the other USB audio device. You should get a window that pops up and asks if you want to connect the device. Click NO. Below is a screencap of the window I get. After I click NO it closes and I can use my Digitech software to communicate with my RP350 and it doesn't affect Sonar at all.

Yeah, bascially I do not *ever* want to use the Line6 as the soundcard, so what ever I
need to do to "get it out of the way" is what I want to do,...

Here's something else you can try. Connect the Line 6 USB device. Start Sonar. In Sonar run the Wave profiler in Audio Options. If you're using ASIO switch to WDM/KS to run the wave profiler. After all the devices are found, go to the drivers tab and disable (un-check) all the Line 6 drivers. Go back to ASIO. Make sure the Line 6 device isn't showing in any of the tabs. This might be a permanent solution but you might have to make sure the Line 6 is always connected before starting Sonar.

I can't say for sure this will solve the problem but it's what I would try.

Well, it is true that Sonar can only use one audio device when in ASIO mode. But you can use other USB audio devices as long as Sonar isn't using them. I do it all the time.

The Line 6 UX will work fine in WDM mode, provided that you don't record through it.

Hmm,...ok,....but I use the Line6 UX for all the amplifier modeling, and of course record
all guitar and bass parts via it and GearBox or POD Farm,.etc,.etc,...

Is there a way to remove the ASIO drivers for the Line6, and use only the ASIO
driver for the Tascam, and in "some way" use the Line6 for guitar ampifier modeling,..??

Oh, so you DO want to use both the Tascam and Line 6 audio devices in Sonar at the same time. I must have misunderstood your original post. Your best bet is to either use, as has already been suggested, the WDM/KS driver mode which will allow multiple audio devices in use or to look into using ASIO4ALL.

Maybe you could try connecting the UX's digital output to the Tascam's digital input.  Then you could select the UX as the soundcard in Sonar when you are recording guitars or select the Tascam otherwise.  Either way, the output would be routing through the Tascam regardless of whether it was selected in Sonar and PODfarm/GearBox would always be available too.

Would this work?  I am not sure without trying it.

Ok,..to clarify,...I do not ever want to use the UX as the or "a" soundcard,... I just want it to do
its job of modeling, and run its output through the Tascam,...

Maybe I am asking for the impossible,...also I have will have to see what ASIO4ALL could
do for me,..first I have heard of it,....

    Thanks....
