Cute

Here's a quick collage of what I saw outside the dining window tonight.  My roommate tells me there are five of the little ones (he had to stop working on the yard for fear of hurting them).  Mama looks proud, dad usually comes out in the mornings and early afternoons to sun himself - both will sit about four feet away from us without caring too much.

You start with a few and end up with thousands.

They breed like rabbits those things.

Those are almost equivalent to rats what comes to phenomenal multiplying and damage to garden and basements. But I suppose you know that well.

Rabbits in larger scale are quite newcomers in Finland, and there's been a lot of discussion about them.
When they do their digging around the buildings thus exposing, say, water pipes to cold, the damages are often counted in tens of thousands. Same thing with many garden plants - total destruction both above and below ground level.

In Holland I once tried to take a walk around a pond in the centre of a small town, but the ground was so covered with goose droppings that I could not think of stepping there, you could not see the sand through the guano. Then I thought I'll take the sandy path across the childrens playing ground. 40-50% of the sand was actually rabbit droppings. I had top stay on the asphalt because I did not have rubber boots.

That was shocking and disgusting, and a result of city peoples totally twisted/lacking understanding of nature. There are places where animals must be kept in control, killed if necessary, no matter how cute they are.

The same could be said for bass players.

Sounds like you live in an area deprived of predators Kalle.  Unfortunately, I have to report that already two of the little ones have been caught by the neighbor's cat and, while the coyotes can't get into the yard, the hawks that are always circling around will probably get a meal as well.

Not that it will hurt the bunny community, these are so-called "Eastern Cottontail Rabbits" - the most populous type of rabbit in the U.S. and way over on the "Least Concerned" end of the scarcity chart.  Plus they are known to have 3-4 litters during a single season so I'm sure they will recover.

It's cool to look out one's window and see wildlife.
We had some rabbits jumping around last summer and
they put on quite a few shows not to mention all the
other visitors. (for a while I thought I may see a bassist
    jumping around out back)
Something like enjoying a silent movie I imagine....

It was kind of cool to see Mama Bunny tending to her young, but nothing a bassist does surprises me anymore.

We only have twelve tones. The Am note being the main one though.

Pretty tame if they come that close. I like to see these in the yard too, only now we put a repellent around the garden or they will munch away on it.

    .
I don't think there can ever be enough predators to control the populations in the cities, where rabbits anf geese turn into a plague. The prey has too many good hideouts there.

And the nature-alienated people would be demanding for owl- or fox-extermination if they saw those cruel beasts killing the pretty cute ones.

Predators like foxes or raccoon dogs are relatively often killed by cars.
I don't know how it is in central Europe, where the problem is 100 times worse than up here. Outside the cities the rabbits don't spread so much because our winter is a bit too rough for them, usually.

Actually, an Eagle Owl-family nesting in the center of Helsinki has gotten much publicity this spring. A few years ago a Eagle Owl interrupted an international soccer game at the olympic stadium sitting on the cross bar of the goal. Since then our national soccer team has been called the Eagle Owls.

He was probably just waiting for one of the smaller players to fake an injury so he could pounce...
