midi drums, sonar 8 and yamaha 01x

Hi all,
Just wondering how the following set up would work with the yamaha 01x.
I currently have the sr16 triggering toontrack superior drummer on my laptop in Sonar 8. I still get slight latency as my soundcard is not the best.
mIDI OUTS FROM THE SR16 are connected VIA MIDI USB CONNECTION TO THE LAPTOP.
How would this work with the O1X. Would it be
MIDI OUTS FROM THE SR16 TO THE 01X AND THEN 01X TO LAPTOP VIA FIREWIRE.
Would this resolve the latency issues or would I need to buy a new soundcard? Hopefully somone has a yamaha 01x and can help.
Thanks all

First try changing the record buffer size. If you have the manuals for the hardware, it should tell you how to set them up, but yeah that is what I would do.

The O1X will become your "soundcard".  The drivers were last updated for XP/Vista, but the ASIO latency can be configured quite low (with WDM drivers for monitoring).  The available number of Firewire channels can also be reduced to improve performance.

It's not new technology, and configuration has been a nightmare in the past (much improved with the latest versions, though).  But the reward lies in the incredible depth of implementation.  It's still a great piece of hardware and overall concept.
