Piano Roll input question

I was expecting to be able to use the piano roll view keyboard to input notes and see them appear as typed and also be able to record the notes in a track using a soft synth. I see where I can use other methods of input but I cannot determine if what I am trying to do is possible or not.
Would someone advise me if this is doable? If so, some advice as to how would be appreciateTd.
Thanks in advance for any help.

No, the keyboard in the PRV only allows you to audition notes and select rows of notes. To enter notes, you need to click inside the grid with your mouse.
