Update on dragging files in / out of Sonar *SOLVED*

Hey all,

I'd reported before that in super old Sonar I could drag files in and out of Sonar, but I can't now. I figured out something new.

I'm on win7 64bit.

After enough people posted that they could do it, I kept trying. It looks like I CAN drag out of Sonar as long as I'm dragging to somewhere other than the desktop.

I still can't get anything to drag into Sonar, which is okay, since I just started using the file browser with quick links to locations I use.

Just an update. I wonder if you guys can drag to the desktop? It's probably some Win7 security nonsense. I am running Sonar as admin though.

No problems dragging and dropping to/ from anywhere with SONAR x64 over here, including the desktop. What kind of files are you trying to DnD?

Weird. Any type of files. Primarily waves, 16 or 24 bit, 44k. I've also tried mp3s. No love.

It's not a huge issue, but I'm curious that no one else seems to have this problem. I never had this problem with Win XP. But the last version I used on XP was Sonar 6. 8.5 has always been Vista / 7.

No doubt you already know this, but if you don't turn off the option to place broadcast files at their original time stamp, they will end up at some odd location where you don't see them.  For example, I thought i was unable to drag and drop sound effects wavs, but they were actually going out to some location hours past the end of my track.  I don't know how why some files are tagged as broadcast as others are not.

Again, I'm sure you already know this, but this may save another user hours of frustration.

Oh totally. That drove me INSANE, since all of my recordings with the h4n are broadcast waves. =)

That's not the case with this one.

The following from a WIndows SEVEN Forums with a problem that sounds similar to what you are experiencing

"your problems most likely have to do with the running privilege levels of each application. If you have file explorer running as normal user and a program running as admin or elevated user, you won't be able to drag & drop things across the two. Hopefully that makes sense and helps you arrive at a solution."

Is all of your Win 7 operating  system updated(Custom)?  With some of the original/older versions there were some drag and drop issues that were later resolved/reimplemented.

Sonar Platinum 64bit, Win 8.1 Pro 64bit,  Quad Core 3.2GHz,  16G ram, Edirol FA 101, Nvidia

I automagically run x1 as admin, because of DXi errors, but now that I've removed all dxi plugs and use VSTs only, I'll try setting X1 to run as a normal user again.

Thanks for the tip!

I never would have thought this, but my thinking is reversed. If X1 is admin, copying from computer into it would be crossing low priv to high priv!

That was it. If I run Sonar NOT as an administrator, I can copy both into and out of sonar.

I told you guys it wasn't that the audio files weren't good or were a weird format ;)

Cheers!
