In Need Of Mixing Advice For This Jazzy Tune

Hi there,
This is a loop I made for "Dream A Little Dream Of Me" so I can solo over it, thought I might enhance my mixing skills while I'm at it.

this is the setup:
Acoustic Guitar Track(DI with EZmix[including some reverb])
Electric Guitar Track(DI with Guitar Rig 4)
Drums Track(EZDrummer with Jazz EZX Plus EZmix)
Upright Bass Track(Kontakt 4 Upright Bass + EZMix)
There EZMix on the master as well.

no further EQ, Comp, etc. had been done to any of the tracks.

Dream Full
Dream Strait

I've Uploaded 2 versions.
The strait one without any of the instances EZmix and also without any delay or reverb I've added through guitar rig.
The "Full" one with all the EZmix instances I mentioned and also with some delay and reverb through guitar rig.

I'm not "afraid" of using EQ, Comp, etc. it's just that EZmix is easier when I want some pumping backing track for practicing right away.
I have Sonar X1 Producer(With Pro Channel and other EQ,Comp Tools) and also Guitar Rig 4 with the new NI compressors.

BTW- I've only included the melody of the song, long solos seemed to be useless for mixing purposes ATM.

Access denied! And I was so hoping to hear your tracks ;)

How is EZmix? I considered getting it before, but I'm not big on having to constantly by expansions. Seemed pretty cool for having small, easily managed effects.

I'm not in an environment where I can be too critical. I'm just using my ear buds (pretty good ones).

    Full:
The bass has quite a bit of sub bass boom. You might want to control it a little bit. Maybe just some soft compression on the 80 - 200 hz range and then roll off the super deep lows.

It sounds like most of the instruments (other then drums) are fairly centered or just slight left. I'd pan those guitars a bit more.

I dig the reverbs. They're pleasant and fitting.

The most critical feedback I have is that the drums and bass are dominating the mix from my perspective. I think the acoustic guitar needs some mid warmth (it's very attacky) and the electric guitar needs some more treble for a little more attack cut through.

Sounds like the instruments are fightin each other a little.

If you'd like. I could take a crack at mixing the tracks and show you how I'd treat them. Up to you. Might be a fun little exercise.

If you are using the recorded material as a backing track to play along with, make sure you take into account what you will be playing it back through to play along with.  If you are just playing the track through your guitar amp, for example,  you may want to convert it to a mono track as opposed to a stereo track as all of your stereo effects will be lost anyways.  Also when doing your mixing for this purpose listen to it through what ever you are going to be playing along with and eq it accordingly.  If you are using a stereo mix make sure you have both sides going into your output.

Wow, saying your name made me drunk. First of all, how many parts are the backing mix? How many tracks are in the backing mix? I noticed some blurriness in the bass, etc. If it's just a stereo backing track there's only so much you can do to it. <--( not much ) If you have seperate tracks for all the parts the song is your oyster so to speak. Mixing on a professional level is always done per instrument-track and can real complicated so there is no general advice to give you 'cause each track on each recording is going to be different. A good mix makes it sound like all the players are in the same room so to speak. So a lead part that you want to add must carry the same feel as the backing or it will sound as if it has been "pasted" on top. It can be quite difficult to match the feel of a backing track that came from somewhere else.

I recorded everything into Sonar, I intend to treat as a full song I just wanted to point out that I came up with it for soloing over it, but that's was only "in the 1st place"

I think I'd ditch the EXMix effects on the drums on the effected version of the song.  The room sound IS good, but it doesn't match the rest of the instruments.

I agree that the electric guitar lacks a bit of high-end. Or maybe it just has a bit too much 200-400Hz giving the impression that it is dull when it isn't. (Try removing a bit first in the lower-mids and if that doesn't work, add a bit of high). I also think it is a touch loud compared to the rest. If you lower it and also lower the bass a bit I think your mix will be more balanced.

I also agree that you could pan the guitars a bit more to fill the stereo field better. Have fun!

I like how well you can hear the rhythm guitar in the raw track as well as the drums. Nice performances, BTW. My impression for this piece would be try to EQ the bass and then just add a nice Room Reverb on the Raw to get it to sound like the combo is playing in the same room. Great work!

Nice playing!  I would EQ the bass and reduce the boominess.  These jazz pieces do not have a lot of low end.  Both tracks ends suddendly.  I never liked guitar rig, I usually use my GT-10.
