Simple Instrument Track - How to adjust MIDI volume?

In a Simple Instrument Track, the volume property seems to affect the audio volume and not the MIDI volume.  How can I access the MIDI volume property of a Simple Instrument Track?

    Is this the only procedure:

    1) split Simple Instrument Track into MIDI and AUDIO tracks
    2) adjust the MIDI track's volume
    3) re-combine the MIDI and AUDIO tracks back into a Simple Instrument Track

    There is a velocity fader if that is what you are looking for.

    One way would be to open the track in the PRV and insert cc#7 volume events.
