I'm still on my veggie diet and I've been band in using the B words: *eef, ***can, ****wurst, *urger etc...let alone eating it . I just come here to see what it's like to be on the other side of the fence....(here's a pic of me before being band)

I would say that my heart goes out to anyone trapped in a veggie diet, but the odds are high that they would sieze my heart and and eat it raw with some fava beans and a nice chianti.  It's not their fault.  It's the diet.

I've often thought veggie diet was slang for purgatory.

a friend of mine has a case of gout at the moment, who isn't even 40 yet has been on a veggie diet since then and it was down to a lot of meat eating / none veg-fruit that caused it.

so veggies aren't so bad.. I couldn't ever be a veggie but it makes you keep in check how much meat you eat esp. red meat. fish is good though, esp. "fishy" fish like Mackerel etc

Um, don't people realize that veggie diets are actually BAD for you?  They cause bone density loss and other issues because they don't have all the proteins you need (they have some, but not in the right amounts).

We were born to eat meat.

    Just sayin'

You've just exactly described my situation (except I hit 45 nine days ago) and the hardest part is adjusting from being a carnivore. Unfortunately, I have no choice in the matter in being a vegan....what has helped my gout is drinking a lot of cherry juice.

Eating "none" of anything is going to be bad (this includes certain fats as well).

One thing that has helped me out a LOT are these new V8 Fusions (half V8 & half fruit juice).  I fill a large cup with about 7/8ths of the stuff and then add 1/8 of a cup of 7-Up.  LOVE IT!  I haven't had a soda since I started this about three months ago.  By itself it's pretty good, but with that little extra bit of fizz, it's great!

The hardest thing for me is cutting back on pasta and milk products (and some sweets), but I'm getting better at it.

I "kind of" behaved at lunch today.  I made a pilgrimage to a favorite BBQ place that's about 30 minutes away.  I ordered the baby back ribs and ate half the rack and got the other half to go.  THAT took a bit of will power.

I'll gradually start to go for more veggies.  I already eat a lot of fruit.  I found out why "an apple a day" is a good thing:  one apple is 20% of the daily fiber we need.  I usually have an orange and some cherries or blueberries, too.  I also have a banana from time to time.

I'm in situation where my iron is low, so the red meat stays for now.  It will be augmented by the appropriate beans and veggies so that I can cut down on that, too.

I hate dealing with absolutes as far as diet goes.  If I went all veggie, I don't think I'd last because I'd feel like I'm punishing myself.  So, I try to go with common sense and make better choices but reward myself once in a while.
