Transferring a Project to X1

I recently got a new computer (Dell workstation) with 64 bit Windows 7 and installed X1 Producer (64 bit) on it along with the two X1 updates.  I have a Sonar 8.5 Producer project on a machine running Windows XP (32 bit) that I want to transfer to the new machine.  I have tried simply copying the CWP file and the audio folder into the Cakewalk Projects folder, and I have also tried making a bundle file.  In both cases Sonar X1 stops working when I open either the bundle or the CWP file on the new machine.  Is the problem going from 32 bits to 64 bits, or is there something I'm overlooking?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark,

Try holding the shift key down (safe mode) when loading the project.
It's probably due to a particular plugin...

Thanks a ton, Jim.  I opened in safe mode and got the tracks to appear.  In safe mode it asks if I want to add various plugins/soft synths and I found that the "culprit" was the soft synth SFZ.  I'm confused because SFZ is installed on the new machine and when the project is finally opened the SFZ tracks appear.  Should I just delete the SFZ tracks and then add them again?  Any suggestions?  Thanks again.

  • Leave the original MIDI performance tracks.
  • Delete the old instance of SFZ (if it's still there).
  • Then, add SFX via the synth-rack... and route the original MIDI performance track/s to the new instance of SFZ.
  • Save your projtect
That should do it...

Yes, that got the project so it will open and not crash.  One last (sigh) question.   I have a folder with a whole bunch of soundfont files, with the extension sf2.  When I insert sfz and attempt to load one of the soundfonts as the file sfz doesn't register the file.  Is this caused by the difference between 32 and 64 bits, or do I need to do something for sfz to use these soundfonts?  Any last suggestion? And, by the way, you've been really helpful.

In answer to my own question, I found a free utility SFZed (just google if you're interested) that will convert SF2 files into SFZ files that will work with the 64 bit version of SFZ in X1.  I'm a happy man.
