Thanks Chas, glad you liked it.

Geno, coming from a player of your calibre, I'm honoured by those compliments, thanks very much! I must admit I do like Stuermer's legato style, perhaps a little rubbed off.

Thanks Kev!

Don't think I've ever heard you on your own before - in fact I didn't even know you did solo stuff -  gonna have to check out your others now. Only on lappy but everything sounds the way it should. Interesting to hear you outside of SMB - always good to step outside of the comfort zone now and then I think.

Hi Bret, thanks! I blended two snares there, one from SD2, and one is a sample I snipped from a John Martyn CD.

Ed - thanks bud! Interesting what you say..I posted this tune years ago as 'The Outsider' and some of the comments said the playing sounded 'sterile', so I really wanted a more 'raw' feel this time.

Thanks a lot Paulo, it's been a while since I did a track on my own, they're usually fairly short...'cos I run out of ideas easily.

this is top notch james, really good tune and mix. the middle synth part had a bit of WOTW vibe, and sent my cat a bit loopy! she couldn't work out what the noise was (some other cat?!) or where it was coming from! nice to hear you able to wig out a bit towards the end.

First, I agree with the earlier posts that this is a great cut and very well performed.  However, I think that the reason for posting here is to get opinions for improvements so here goes...

I think that (particularly in the first 50 seconds) the bass guitar drowns out the drums.  Not that the bass is too loud, but that there isn't enough punch in the drums.  If there is the headroom and space I think that you should bring up the drums.  I've listened on a couple of sets of speakers and just think that the drums are a bit weak for such a driving song.

Just an opinion.  This is a great cut as it stands.

Wow James, just excellent.  I love your knack for the hook and where you go when you change keys.  Echo does a perfect job of supporting the guitar.

Thanks Mark, sorry about the cat distress! Glad you liked the tune.

Hi Glen, you're right about the bass. I tend to overdo it because the low frequencies fly out of the window in this room. Checking through headphones I can hear what you mean.

Hey Mark, thanks a lot. I don't have your chops, so hooks is all I gots Glad you noticed the key change, I like to do that as it sometimes gives the melody a different twist.

Hi, James,

This is a fantastic, amazingly creative guitar instrumental that truly showcases your wonderful writing, playing and production talent!

Your trademark rich guitar tone and naturally fluid solos sound absolutely dynamite, and the great choices that you made for the synth sounds and percussion, along with the crystal clear rhythm guitar tone, provide the perfect contrast to fill out the arrangement nicely.  As always, the sound of the mix is absolutely stellar.

Terrific job, James, well done!
Bob

..let's just say Mr Gibson isn't renowned for his historical accuracy...

Well, I reckon he'd be more than happy with the beautiful tone you're getting here from one of his Les Pauls

Excellent stuff James, top drawer mix as usual - and it sounds even better turned up loud

However, in common with others who have commented, I really wanted the end part to go on for much longer - you sound like you were starting to really get in the groove there mate (it felt a bit like when an idiot DJ fades out Sultans of Swing straight after the last verse!).

Bob..I don't know what to say, except thanks so much! Really appreciate those compliments my friend, it means a lot.

Thanks Steve! Well, I was getting into the groove until it all went t**s up, hence the fade!

Solo?! Is that allowed?  :)

Hey, this is great stuff.  Right off the bat I knew it was gonna be good.

And I was right.

Solid great stuff!  I love the groove, guitars, and changing melodies, tones, and your magic.

This is tasty, James.
I was tempted to just quote Bob Oister, because he took the words right out of my mouth.
This is classic JL.
Love that rich tone, and the change-ups just keep it moving.
That little teaser in the outro is kind of cool.
Sort of sets us up for something rowdy to follow, like maybe 'breakfast".
