Backing up to 8.5

I'm going to put 8.5 back on my system. When I do the install is there a way to just install the program and use my current X1 synths and plugs? I don't want to overwrite updated stuff with earlier LE versions etc.
Loving X1 but I am going to try tracking in X1 and mixing in 8.5 I don't mind a crash while I'm creating tracks but I need more stability when I reach the mixing stage. Thanks for the advice.

Regards, John

You can choose to do an advanced install and then only put checkmarks next to the things you want to have installed.

Is X1 crashing while you are mixing? If so there must be an explanation and hopefully a solution that would be easier and cleaner than re-installing 8.5.

I appreciate your enthusiasm Brandon, but my malfunctions are so random it's hard to know where to begin. When I used the word crash it was ill chosen. I do get crashes but most often it's a case of things changing between work sessions. Things seem to switch on/off by themselves (pro channel), the mouse loses focus and control of anything to the left of its current track requiring me to click on any track to the right of the current track before I can continue.
Very obscure problems that I can't even blame on X1. After many, many hours of tweaking any trying, I'm about done with problem solving. X1 has beaten me down so I look at the shelf and see version 2, 6 and 8.5 sitting useless and figure I should try one of them to try and get the Sonar mojo back.

Did you try another mouse, or does the mouse work correctly with other programs?
Somehow those symptoms you described sound a little like pointing device related...I'm just guessing, though.

If SONAR's installation scripts are properly written, and I have no reason to believe they aren't, you should have no problem at all installing 8.5 after X1. There will even be a few benefits, such as getting the Pantheon reverb back.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    John,
I'm in the process of installing 8.5.3 on my StudioCat. Foolishly, I think now,
I thought that immersing myself in X1 would be the best way to go (got the new DAW
about the time X1 was released).
It certainly forced me to learn X1, but, existing 8.5 projects can be a bit frustrating the
first go around in X1 (my thanks to Cake for the heads up there).
I've never removed the old install, that was a mistake I think.
    NSA,
I have the luxery, since I was moving to the new dedicated DAW, that I can go back and
get my last 8.5 version, I know its too late for you now but, I never move to a new platform
    without leaving a path back.
Hope someone can help you with that one...
