If drums are on channel 1 and track is set to channel one, drums should respond to fader on miditrack.
If it doesn't, BFD do not respond to CC#7.
CC#7 affect all notes sounding, just remember that.
Then how it's handled in Sonar when separate volume events are inserted, I'm not sure. If this is in conflict with volume envelopes I could not say.
Changing velocity in drum notes also result in change of timber. So changing stuff on midi side might not the way to go I think if that is unacceptable.
Volume+expression+velocity works together.
CC#7+CC#11+velocity decides the final volume on notes.
Since many instruments exist at the same moment on a audio drumtrack changing velocity might still be the least destructive way to go.
If note is separate and no other hits on the same spot in time, volume envelope might fix it.
