I'll bite. Roll off the low end w/ a high-pass filter. 80-100 Hz is a nice starting place, tho for female vocals it can be double or more of that.
Otherwise, it is probably best to look to cut other instruments' frequency that step on the main one's of the vocals.
For compression, start w/ the Sonitus comp on the 1176 preset if you want the vox to float on top of the music. Then jack w/ the input, release etc. until it sound right to you. It is just not the fact that vocals need different settings - it is also about how you hear them. Art not science.
