Dimension Pro/Pentagon open in 8.5 but not X1

I decided to upgrade my computer a bit and purchased Windows 7 and a new hard drive, along with more ram.  I had been using Vista 32 bit and the hardware all went in okay.
I installed Sonar 8.5 and after a few initial issues, all seems okay, although at first Dimension Pro and Pentagon would not load. I don't know what I did, but all of a sudden they loaded.
I then installed X1 Essential, and I'm having the same problem. Neither of the above will load up. They show under the Insert/Soft Synth/menu but when I attempt to load I get the message that the synth may not have installed correctly.
I'm running both 8.5 and X1 as administrator, and the plugin path used in 8.5 is also used in X1.
They do not show up as either DX or VST instrument in the Plugin Manager in X1.
Any advice appreciated.
Oh, and I checked share resources in both, not that I know if that would help...
Very frustrating.

    64-bit Windows7?

They both work in Windows7 64-bit. Pentagon you have to do something, but I don't remember what it was. Search the forum. The DX version of Dimension Pro doesn't work in 64-bit Sonar, but the VST should.

Also, just because you are signed on as Administrator, you still have to right-click Run As Administrator when installing these products.

    Dave
    Thanks for replying.
I have right clicked both 8.5 and X1 and should be running as administrator for both.
Should I attempt to do the same with Dim Pro and Pentagon?
I only see dll's of course, not any exe files. I think anyway, I'm at work at present.
I only intend to have music on this drive and dual boot with Vista for other stuff. Bit frustrating as I wanted everything neat and tidy but already have stuff starting to go here and there, and this is before I install Sampletank and my newly acquired Kontakt.
    Oh Well.

I have no issues running either using the VST versions and win7 64bit. The DXi versions crap out constantly.

I just got home so I'll check, but I believe I checked to install both dx and vst versions. Perhaps I just need to find out where the vst version is. The DX shows up in 8.5.

Search on my id for a recent thread with a few remarks about Pentagon.  If my installation is the default (X1P 255x64 under Win7x64, upgraded by download from 8.5x64 which itself was upgraded by download from 8.0x32 (or whatever prev paid/patched version was), then there should be two files in Program Filesx86=>Cakewalk=>Shared DXi=>Pentagon I.  The first is P1DXi.dll, file version (under the details tab) 1.0.1.0.  The second is Pentagon I.dll, file version  1.5.0.0.

The first of these is a DXix32 (so it won't work in X1x64).  The second is apparently a 32 bit VST, and is the one you should be trying to work with.  Yes, they put a VST in a "DXi folder"! If it's not showing in the plugin manager, be sure that directory is covered in the scan.  As you know, once you see the plugin in the manager, it will tell the precise name & location of the file.

After contacting support about issues I was having getting the VST to run - I was just trying it out as a vocoder - they sent me a link to a complete new Pentagon install.  But the installer was dated years before the dll's I already have, and I'm reluctant to mess with it.  Especially since it does now appear that while the vst gives problems with X1 projects converted from 8.5, it works ok in new X1 projects.

So I'd suggest just testing the VST in a fresh X1 test project (you are running x64, right?), then work backward from there.

How's that for detail  ;)  Good luck, -Ron

I had an issue where dim Pro would not register , I ran dim pro as Adim and I was go to go.. Also make sure your plugin manger is directed to the right folders for scanning.. Just some Ideas...

    Thanks everyone.
I called Tech Support and the issue is this:
As I liked the thought of X1, but didn't want a full upgrade, I purchased Essential, which I now know is 32 bit only. So, as I installed under 64 bit system, and originally installed Dip Pro under 64 bit, that's why it won't show.
Pentagon installed with 8.5, but I installed that for 64 bit too, so that won't show, unless I also install the 32 bit version of 8.5 as well.
So both are do-able although I don't know whether to do so (for Pentagon anyway - Dim Pro would be easier).
I might stay with just 8.5, although I am considering upgrading to X1 Studio, which is $100 I'd rather keep.
As my computer isn't the speediest, (even though I now have Win 7), I'd get the most out of it by using a 64 bit host, and I do have the Power book for 8.5 still, while I have done nothing (money wise) to support X1 Essential, although it's disappointing that there is no 64 bit load option for it.
    I appreciate the input.
