simply put;; is there any issues with installing x1 from 8-5
iv seen that some are running the x1 without isssues and a updates is coming so im ready to kill my workflow and if there is a way to avoid some easy mistakes, q1-----do i have to uninstall the core of 8-5 or do i just point x1 to my drive that has my librarys for synths and plugs,????? q2------i see the intrack eq is new, will this be a issue with old projects ,or any new isssue;s with old projects loading as i have a lot of mixing to do, and want to try the new track eq comp. sorry if im a pain im just affraid to kill my DAw when its running so well. i can do a 5 piece band with sessiond as drums , a song in 40 min from just riffing out, to a preproduced direction for a song, with all the trimming and x1 will be better as iv seen if im lucky

Best option is to not uninstall 8.5. This has a number of benefits: - Easy to go back to 8.5 if you need to for a project
- X1 install wll pick up a lot of config choices from your 8.5 install
- You won't accidentally uninstall any plug-ins
Sonar versions have be designed to peacefully co-exist for years, I currently have 7, 8, 8.5 and X1 on the same machine with no problems.

The issue that I encountered was with X1 migrating the path to my custom normal template from 8.5 and it seemed to cause trouble with screen sets. I now have 2 different normal templates... one I can use for all the old versions of SONAR and one for X1. There is also the Sonitus Delay issue... make sure that the X1 install doesn't hose your Sonitus Delay .dll. best regards, mike

As for the new EQ: When you load up an old project that uses the built-in Sonitus EQ, X1 will pop up a message notifying you of that, and will disable the ProChannel for any track that is using it. Clicking on the EQ plot will still bring up the Sonitus.

Sonitus delay issue was fixed in one of the patches, so if you install those, you'll be fine.

The X1 installer is standalone; it does not require a previous version to be installed, but I would leave 8.5 installed as a fallback, and reference FR how things used to work. No special issues with X1 itself, but obviously some users have experienced installation issues, so there's no guarantee you won't be one of them. There is an issue if you install the Dim Pro update/expansions that it needs the new license to be entered. I haven't actually been through that so I can't give details, but you should be able to hunt up a forum thread on it. When you open the channel EQ on a track in an old project using Sonitus EQ, X1 will ask if you want to convert to Prochannel EQ. Once you convert, you can't go back, so you might want to create X1-specific copies of those projects. I've personally found that Prochannel EQ can sound very different from Sonitus with the same settings. And Prochannel is harder to tweak in some ways, so you might not like it.

As brundlefly says, you get the option to switch when you load the project. His suggestion is good, load up some old projects and save them again as "[filename]X1version" or something. Then you can have a mess around with the new EQ and see how you like it, but you've still got the old project if you don't. If you don't switch as soon as you load, you can do it manually later on anyway. As long as you're paying attention, it's not that easy to mess up your projects.

Heh, good luck. What tends to cause more problems, to be honest, is if you worry about all this too much and start trying to get tricky with the install process. That usually ends in tears. If you just fire it up and accept all the default options, then install the updates in order, all should be peachy.

Good luck and enjoy!
