Setting recording levels
Hello All I am recording using a Samson G track, which I have just bought. My problem is this. When I set the volume and mic on the Gtrack so that I can hear through the headphones, the recording levels are too high on sonar. If I turn the controls on gtrack down so that the record levels are ok, I get no sound through the headphones. When I conect the guitar, even with volume to max, on gtrack ,the record level on gtrack hardly moves. I am using winddows 7 Thanks for any help

Did this device come with any software? Does it have a software mixer to adjust levels? Does it have seperate hardware input and output controls?

Yes, it comes with sonar LE. I cant find anything on the software to adjust levels. Sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by seperate input and output. It has a volume level control and a mic and inst level control

Greg meant a GTrack software. Something to control it's routing etc. like a mixer. Those USB-mics are quite tricky in multitracking. THere's a sticky about them in this forum a few rows up.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Right, software for the Gtrack. So, the volume knob controls the headphone output, too? Many devices have a software mixer or hardware switch to set the output to headphones and the level.

Yes the volume knob controls the headphone output. But to hear the sound through headphones while recording I have to turn volume almost as high as it will go, as well as the mic. Obvioulsy then record level is miles to high. If I plug my guitar in, the reverse is the case. ie Im on peaking on the gtrack (red light comes on) but recrd level is too low.

Post what you did to sort it. This will help other users with a similar problem and avoid the need for duplicate threads being posted.
