No "Preview To" functionality like on Roland VS workstations?

I have made the leap to SONAR from a long line of Roland VS workstations (most recently the VS-2400CD).  I do a lot of comp editing, and for over 10 years have made heavy use of the VS workstation's "Preview To" and "Preview From" buttons in my editing process.  Here's a description of this functionality from the Roland VS-2400CD user manual:

Basic Controls and Navigation Tools  (Page 44)

3—PREVIEW TO Button
Press PREVIEW TO to listen to the last few moments leading up to the current location of the now line—you can set how much you want to hear. (default value is 1 second)

4—PREVIEW FROM Button
Press PREVIEW FROM to listen to what occurs just after the current location of the
now line—you can set how much you want to hear. (default value is 1 second)

PREVIEW TO and PREVIEW FROM work together, and are all described in detail in
“Preview” on Page 177.

To audition the project just before and after the current position of the now line, press PREVIEW FROM and PREVIEW TO at the same time for the PREVIEW THRU feature.

You can imagine my dismay to find that there is no such functionality in SONAR (particularly Preview To).  It also appears that the Roland VS-700 control surface, designed for use with SONAR, does not provide these buttons, making it the first device in the Roland VS line to not do so.

So basically, I'm now looking for any hardware or software DAW that directly supports "Preview To" / "Preview From" functionality, via either physical or soft controls, and also supports multi-channel MIDI recording and editing (the lack of the latter being why I am abandoning the VS line).

Does any such DAW exist?

Interesting feature - Have you submitted a request?

I can see its uses if you are used to having it, but I don't see its absence creating any workflow issues - especially with the flexibility of markers and the now time and looping. IMO

I recently bemoaned the lack of this feature in another thread.  For many years I did my recording on a VS880, and like you I used this all the time and found it extremely useful.

Sound Forge can do this as well (Ctrl+Shift+K), but I'm not aware of a DAW that can.

I have a feeling that if this feature were available, many users would wonder how they ever lived without it.  (Especially if you could also move the Now Time minute amounts with arrow keys)

Both of those features make sense in the new X1 environment (to me, anyway.)  It seems simple yet powerful and since we're moving to lots of keystroke shortcuts . . . . .

Do you mean that the features being discussed are already supported in X1 (i.e., via keystroke shortcuts), or that these would be good features to add to X1 in your opinion?  (I haven't yet explored X1 very much, but my sense is that there are no new features of this particulr kind)

Sorry if I got you excited!  I think there's no reason not to add features like this in the new environment.
