Allied H-887 cans

My son bought these the other day from a resale shop.
I can't find any reference to them on the web, but now I know why they call headphones "cans".

Anyone have any idea what these are (besides the obvious)?

(BTW, I haven't listened to them yet, but he seems happy with them.)
