Anybody managed to load a Studioware Panel at all?
I installed the Studioware Panels as Cakewalk Support advised as they are considered as legacy parts now. On the install menu you toggle Studioware Panels. However, when I try to Open one nothing happens at all. No error message. Nothing seems to be loaded. The files are all in the right default Syudioware folder. I wanted to specifically look at the Roland VS880 Studioware panel. Anybody had any luck with these panels?

How are you trying to open the panel? I don't see studioware listed as a view option in X1.

Stone House Studios How are you trying to open the panel? I don't see studioware listed as a view option in X1. That's another issue. That probably is the reason why nothing shows up after loading the file. I use File Open Change File Type to Studioware and go to the relevant folder which shows all the Studioware panels. I'd really like to know if anyone has used any Studioware panel? Thanks for your interest.

I used it years ago - I think Sonar 1 (or maybe Pro Audio 9) had a Studioware editor in it. It was dropped before Sonar 5 (maybe Sonar 3.) Honestly, I just don't know what you think a panel will do for you. All they were was graphical depictions that sent midi data to external hardware. Not much magic in them. I'd like to help . . . . Brian Its still shown under Help and in the manual. You can install the panels (as instructed by Support) as legacy software etc I don't see why they do not work. Even Scott Garrigus was surprised. Hope he does not mind me mentioning that. Before I ever buy any VS system this needs to be resolved. Thanks again.

You may want to ask yourself this question - why has it been relegated to legacy? The answer probably lies in the proliferation of control surfaces and VSTi's that weren't around when Studioware panels offered a way to control your hardware from within Sonar. Emphasis has moved to using hardware to control software, and the fact that so much can be done "in the box" now, that slaving to an external workstation just isn't where things are. Now, if you are trying to use your VS880 as a contoller, you may want to look into Act, and investigate what midi commands can be sent from it. Brian

No I don't mind. I think it must be a bug, because Cakewalk told me that StudioWare was still supposed to be working in X1. I suppose that could have changed at the last minute before final release, but I didn't hear anything about it. That's why StudioWare is still covered in the SONAR X1 Power! book. Otherwise, I would have removed that section. Scott -- Scott R. In my case I have to set windowing the Sonar main view, you will find behind the studioware panel, then right click on the top of the studioware an set ¨activate float¨or something like that. As you can imagine Sonar support for studioware panels sucks, I have track/channel mistakes all the time... I juts ask why in this world not even a MIDI VSTi plugin or a MFX plugin with similar capabilities has not been created to work with external MIDI gear? WHY!WHY!WHY!!!!!!

Hmmm... I just tried it and it's working here. It looks like the StudioWare panels are showing up behind the Track view. If you minimize the Track view, you should see the window. And I think Carlos is on to something there too... once you have access to the StudioWare window, click the upper-left corner and choose Enable Floating. That will keep the window above the Track view. Unfortunately, you can't dock StudioWare windows in the MultiDock. Scott -- Scott R. once the studioware its floating, you can minimize it the real bug is that they make destination errors when sending data to a certain channel/port or Sonar track, Cakewalk should revise that, or make something better, an alternative vsti/mfx MIDI controller

I just tried your suggestions re minimizing Track view to see the Studioware panel and that works. The VS880 panel seems to be responding though I do not yet have the actual hardware plugged in. So far so good. Thanks to all again.
