UA 25 EX and DTS-HD

Is there a way to play blu-ray movies through the UA-25EX card?

The driver supports 48 KHz/ 24 bit which is the output standard for the movie.

I set the playback drivers to 48 KHz/ 24 bit but PowerDVD still sees the audio interface as LPCM 44 KHz/16 bits.

Thanks,

You have made the UA-25ex the default playback device in Control Panel>Sounds and changed the Out properties to 48kHz/24 bit there?

Thanks for the reply.  Yes I did that already.

I tried another playback software, Arcsoft, and it shows the output as 48 KHz but still 16 bit.

Also rebooted the computer to make sure all drivers were set.

Is the Advanced Driver Switch on?

    From the manual:

"This switches the operation mode of the UA-25EX
    .
The UA-25EX has two operating modes, Advanced mode and Standard driver mode, and each mode uses a different driver.
If you change the setting of this switch, you must close all software, disconnect the USB cable that connects the UA-25EX to your computer, and then reconnect the USB cable.

    ON (Advanced mode)
In this mode you can use the included UA-25EX driver to record, play and edit audio with high quality and stable timing.
Choose this mode if you’re using sequencer software or
    audio editing software.

    OFF (Standard driver mode)
Choose this mode if you’re using software that uses the standard audio driver included with your operating system.
    * The sample rate will be fixed at 44.1 kHz/16-bit regardless of the setting of the UA-25EX’s sample rate select switch.
    when using Standard driver mode.

    * The MIDI IN/OUT connectors are not available when using Standard driver mode. For details on the driver operation mode, refer to
    “What is a Driver?” (p. 14)."

Thanks for the reply. The system driver was already on Advanced. I deleted the driver and re-installed it after a USB disconnect, re-boot etc.

The output is still stuck in 16 bit-44.1 KHz.

Is there a way to check which driver the system is using?

    Thanks.

I also put in a support request with Roland. Thanks

Honestly, what's the difference? You can only play back 2.0 audio with the UA-25EX, which is no way to truly appreciate a well mixed Blu-ray movie.  Get yourself a proper home theater receiver and a set of 5.1 speakers. The latest AMD and nVidia video cards, which support Blu-ray playback, will pass through the Blu-ray audio in any format, including DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD, etc.

FWIW, not all Blu-rays actually use 24-bit audio. Most use 16-bit, but its certainly worth checking out. And IMHO its worth discriminating and only purchasing Blu-rays with LPCM, DTS-HD MA, or Dolby Tru-HD audio. Some Blu-rays still use Dolby Digital, which is the same codec as was used with DVDs, although it is at a higher bit-rate on Blu-ray.

    I recommend this site when researching a specific Blu-ray's specs ... www.blu-ray.com

BTW, the UA-25EX, nor any other pro audio interface, can't decode DTS, Dolby, etc. I'm pretty sure what you would hear is a downmixed version of whatever Windows spits out.
