Screenset madness ...

I have no idea what is causing your problem, but I am usually pretty good at working around problems ;).

You might want to try re-routing keys via a program like AHK (auto hot key). You can make it so when you press control + 4 on your keyboard it changes the signal sent to the OS into something else. 

So if Sonar isn't vibing with control 4, make control 4 => control + shift 4, or something like that. It might work. :). 

If you want to go that route, I can help you with the script syntax, I script tons of stuff with AHK for work.

correct the number keys are the default screenset keys.  I was wondering myself why he wanted to assign these to a key with a modifier.  I love the fast switching by just hitting the corresponding number key....

num keyz are not ensigned to that by default in my setting ...it come maybe from sonar 8.5 don't know ...

and of course i tried reinsigning keys and it doesn't work

You should try setting them up then. Normally keys 1-0 (without any ctrl, alt. shift etc) are assigned to the 10 screensets. This would be a lot easier on a laptop - as it's always trickier to add ctrl to your hotkey combination (usually combined with the fn key to get at the number pad)

Shot in the dark, perhaps the number-pad thing is thinking that "2" is the down arrow, and "4" is the left arrow.  So your actually mapping the pseudo "PgDn" and "End" keys rather then the numbers. The num's lock thing may be goofing up. I tried using a USB number-pad eons ago to select weapons in a game, and ran into a similar problem with some number pads.

Some number-pads have a program feature, others do not. The ones that can be programed seamed to like being a PC game weapons select pad.

Now I will half to drag out my Belkin Nostromo and see if I can map Sonar to it... Evil thought.

The "manhattan 174169" usb number pad has the same issue. "6" seams to be mapped by default to the preferences window.

Piecing it all together now, and repeating some of the former posts.
The number pad is different from the numbers across the top of the keyboard. This is something that has persisted from the IBM days of the "IBM compatible". Only in a text editor and text prompts do the keys produce the same numbers. The number pad has special significance for some reason, and can not be mapped in a game or other software as hoy-keys easily. I was only able to get around that by getting a programmable USB number pad, and programing each button in it's driver to be something other then a number pad key.

The integrated number pad on my Saitek Eclipse keyboard dose not come with a programmable button layout, and thus I can not assign it's number pad keys as hot-keys as well.

The numbers across the top of the keyboard (1/!, 2/@, 3/#, etc) can be assigned as desired. By default these keys do bring up different views in Sonar X1 Essential. I did a fresh install, with only ProAudio9 previously installed on my computer. I did not do an upgrade from a previous install of Sonar, with previous key assignments already assigned to the upper row of number keys.

This is not a Sonar issue, it is a PC Legacy BIOS limitation. Your trying to cram a 24bit key-code down a 16bit keyboard interface.

With the numlock enabled, when you press the [numpad 1] key, the keyboard sends out [hex 0xFE]+[end] to the BIOS chip... The operating system then converts that to the expected 1. When you pres shift+[numpad 1], the keyboard then sends out [Shift]+[hex 0xFE]+[end]... Shift+[hex 0xFE] means nothing to the operating system, and the [End] is assumed to be pressed by itself because of the 16bit (Two keys) interface limit.
