How did you come up with this combination. Led Zeppelin was together much longer, had more hits, filled more stadiums and changed rock into a more blues oriented sound. The Black Crows had a couple of decent songs, but are they even in the class? Oh yeah, and Robert Plant sang with Alison Krause.

10 years from now, Zep will still be regarded as significant in the history of rock. The Black Crows will be a fairly decent band that was around for a while.

Personally I'll take the Black Crowes. The Southern Harmony and Musical companion album was written in two weekends and was recorded in nine days and stands up to me still as one of the best rock albums ever. It's follow up album Amorica was even better. If anyone fails to see how these two bands could be mentioned in the same breath, then you don't really know The Black Crowes. At the very least, check out the album of the Black Crowes with Jimmy Page live at the Greek. Even Robert Plant said that The Crowes were one of the only decent bands around today.

When you say Black Crows can you be more specific, like Raven, Carrion, Rook or Jackdaw? How can we help you if you don't help us? More info required.

A very subjective question. IMO The Black Crows hands down. Not that Zep wasn't one of the very best. Plant never could sing well IMO but that never held the band up.The guitar chops of the Black Crows are second to none for that genre.

Maybe not as much as I might have sounded in my logical arguments. I was playing devil's advocate part of the time. I stand by those arguments and I particularly like the albums up through Houses of the Holy. I like Physical Graffiti, too. I started to lose interest around then. Mostly, I think they started recording Robert Plant's vocals differently with Houses of the Holy. I don't know if that was to compensate for his age, or if there was another reason. In any case, I thought his vocals sounded different from the earlier albums and he didn't sound as strong. Maybe someone here has some insight on that. Anyway, I don't dislike Black Crows. I just like Zep more. And my whole point was that the comparison is subjective. Another point is that except for the singer--I know his name, but I can't think of it at the moment--I don't know anyone else's name in the band. Not like Plant, Page, Bonham, and Jones. My apologies for stirring things up a little more than necessary. It's been a fun debate. Thanks.

Got curious and looked up The Black Crows. Found out it should be "Crowes" with an "e" for some reason, but I must say, I've never seen as nice of a band member history graphic as this! I wish more bands had one.

I saw them ( the crows) on tour with ZZ Top. I had heard one radio tune.... was not overly impressed. Best part of their show was when they said "Goodnight" and left the stage.

I will admit to a steep bias when it comes to southern rock and a lack of a good understanding of Zep. I never bought any Zep albums. I only heard what was playing on the classic rock stations my co-workers decided to dial in. What I heard sounded like some guy screaming as opposed to singing, but then I admit bias in that regard as well because I probably have a very tight definition of what good singing is. Zep sold tons of records and that says a lot about what others thought about them. Any time someone draws the proverbial line in the sand someone will stand on either side of that line and some will defend it to the death. I personally think differences are what make the world go around. I would like to think that since all those old classic rock bands came out I have expanded my musical pallette somewhat. I can really appreciate a lot more music now than I did before. Although those bands hold a lot of value I think that I have moved on to other listens......music is so unlimited in what we can do with it that to stay in that genre entirely would be such a great waste.

I like a lot of southern rock, too. Allman Bros., Outlaws, Poco, etc. I love to listen to that music. Mostly, I like variety. I like to listen to some current blues guys Robben Ford, Tommy Castro & Chris Cain. I also like "prog", and some finger-picking acoustic Laurence Juber, Muriel Anderson & Doug Smith. I like some electronic music, too. Thanks again for the discussion. It's been fun.
