I got an audio device problem Help?
Alright here's the sitrep I installed Sonar X1 Pro. Then I hooked up my UA-25 EX Cakewalk Interface in. So there I was compressor mic hooked up. Now I go to record -BUT- for some reason X1 can't find a output that does just that - Output the sound. So no sound audible. It can't playback anything recorded with sound. Now I should tell you guys my specs so here they are Windows 7 Home Premium - i7 processor - 8 gigs ram - Realtek HD Audio card (it came with it). So, I can play my music and what not through Windows Media Player. But X1 can't find that output. So I then turned to the MIDI aspect. I found online that Windows 7 no longer has a midi mapper or some such thing - I'm using a Keyrig 49 Midi Keyboard - And so i find that (supposedly) I need a Windows 7 Driver for it to work. So i go onto M-Audio and get it. I download it and Install it. I then go onto Sonar X1 pro and it says - There are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system. Please go to Options/Audio and choose a different driver model. It loads put it then says that the Audio and Master buses and tracks are now currently assigned to the Silent Hardware output. So I click continue and it does. So then I was eventually able to get the MIDI working as well as the keyboard and it works great, but still no audio device selectable. So this is my desperate Q& (hopefully) A. How Do I get both the midi and the audio to work - so that i can hear the recorded audio and the Midi/Synth rack stuff. The Cakewalk UA-25 EX is plugged in at the same time as playback. Don't know if that could be in part why or not. So any help on this would be Great. Thanks in advance.

Are your drivers for the cakewalk interface installed? If not, install them- Sonar should see the outputs for that device. You choose to use that device and NOT the realtek in preferences int he audio drivers section. Then, put your output in sonar to the outputs for the cakewalk interface-

Try Right Clicking on the speaker (lower right of monitor in task bar), select playback device, set it (UA-25) as default device. You might have to reboot and recheck. play everything back through it. Also go into Preferences/MIDI and make sure your MIDI controllers ins and outputs are selected Keep us posted

Aye, don't mix and match the cards in anyway. I'd disable the realtek completely and make sure everything is hooked up through the CW interface. Make sure all of your dropdowns in the preferences -> audio pages are set to using the CW interface. Screenshots of these screens would help to see what you're configured as.

Alright, I figured out what was wrong - I first Installed the Latest Keyrig driver for Windows 7 64 bit, then I installed the latest driver for the UA-25 EX, and then I had to buy double ended RCA cords. I plugged em into the back of the UA-25 EX interface and the other end to my stereo. So I have audible Audio and Midi playback. With the current settings right now (All the sound output going through the interface to my stereo) I got sound, but now when I load ANY VST into it (with its audio content loaded) There is no sound for it. I was able to get the Keyrig to work great with midi, but now there is no sound, for the VST's The ones I use are Dimension Pro, Trilian, and the onboard ones in X1. I switched the output settings in the VST's to pretty much every available output and back to the UA-23 EX output - but still no sound. So one problem solved; another one comes up. Any Ideas?

Check the audio output on the audio tracks of each of the VSTs. When you changed to the UA-25 they likely were previously directed to the Realtec. They will likely now say none. Set them all to output to the UA-25. Also check the output of the Master bus(if you have one set up) and make sure it is also set to the UA-25.

aye. make sure that your master bus shows signal. If the master bus doesn't show signal when playing the synths, you have an internal routing problem. If you see signal in your master bus, you have a problem with how the master bus is routed to your physical output, or your physical connection itself. Just have to isolate where the break down is in the signal flow.

Adamwatt, I had a similar problem and found that I had to rerun the Wave Profiler. After that, everything was fine. Maybe try that and see what happens.

Alright, I solved the mystery, thanks to all of your help. I saw there was signal going to the computer from the KeyRig. So, I looked at where the signal was going to (a lot more closely) and I ended up switching the output on one of the vsts to (the output being) from UA-25 to the master one and then the master one going out the speakers (UA-25 Output). And It worked!! So I did the same to all of the VSTs I use, and they all work perfectly! So I would like to once again thank all of you guys for pointing me in the right direction. Peace out. Rock on.
