Any Chess Players Here?
Who play or would like to play online ? (Yahoo, Google, etc...) I like playing the quicker (2-5 min) games so it won't be a long drawn event...(just wondered if there are any chess players here.)

I was in the park talking with a couple of rooks the other day. I wanted to cut across a field, but they insisted on walking in straight lines and right angles. I tried to talk with them about a realistic view of Middle-Earth politics, but they saw everything in terms of black and white.
Tomorrow, I'll try talking with that bishop over there instead.

I played a bit in school. It was hard to find someone who I could actually beat, so, I gave up the game.
I played a few times with my daughters when they were young, but it didn't take them long to learn the game and so I stopped playing with them especially when they said" Daddy, don't let me win so fast"...and I was trying really hard to beat them....

Yeah, the bishop is your best bet when parading across the field.....however, being the adventurous type you are and having a desire to be multi-dimensional, the Queen may suit your needs far better than the rest of the inferior pieces....(make it a fashion crisis statement and wear your tie-dye thong for posterior posterity purposes!!).

I used to play... now I find it too boring.
My cousin was once ranked 13th in NYC and he taught me, by playing by mail, how to stick it out... I play a long game... a long long long long boring game... that almost always ends in a draw at 50+ moves. Yuck.

...hence I play the 2-5 minute game....have to make your moves quickly and hopefully the correct ones. It's actually very challenging as well as interesting....Mike, you should give this a try and see if it takes the (long drawn game) boredom out?

Hi mesh,
A 50 move (per player) game with a 30 second per move time limit can last 50 minutes... but of course will start fast and slow down later so lets say 20 minutes average?
The only way for me to play under 5 minutes is to give up or play someone who is planning on giving up.
At some point it occurred to me that my game had developed into playing a strong defense while acting the part of a vulture or wolf... waiting to spot weaknesses. It just doesn't give me any juice any more.
I think it is a fantastic activity until you hit that wall.
Now a days I'd rather kick a soccer ball around... or better yet... jam some tricky improv with a former chess mate.

I've been playing my computer. So far I've won 2 games out of 109 at the easiest setting. I think it's setting me up, though.
After I win it asks if I've got any money.
