Tascam 2488 MKII

Would it be possible for a Tascam 2488 MKII to take the place of a sound card, it has USB2 connections to send info back and forth to a computer? Already have one(2488MKII), and I'm getting very frustrated with trying to get a Lexicon Lambda to play well with a new laptop quad core, 8gb ram. Don't even know where to start with a question about how to set up Lambda correctly. Had similar problems with on desktop too.  Hoping maybe 2488 can work or I may have to go with different interface.  Thanks!

    You could start by tellin' which type of problems you have there with Lambda.

    Btw, some Lexicon products uses USB-Audio's ASIO driver which works pretty well. Unfortunately, they don't list Lambda being supported.

    High-speed USB 2.0 jack connects to PC or Mac® for data backup and SMF/WAV file

    The Tascam 2488 is a multi track stand alone recorder. You would use it instead of a computer for recording. There are lot's of multi tracks for sale on Ebay cheap as they are one step away from being obsolete. 
    As you see from the spec sheet above, the USB port is not an audio interface but is only a data transfer port. You'd be paying money for features a computer will do for free.
    They are still handy  for recording a live band.
    If you want to use a computer for recording, you will need to purchase a good interface that has proper ASIO drivers supported. Sounds like the Lexicon is not up to it.
