I miss the old auto-crossfade icon.

I miss it. I do. Was nice to know if it was on or not.

I use that feature tons and constantly turn it on/off .

Sigh.

Remove silence!

Agreed completely! I never actually pressed that button, but I always looked at it to check the status. I'm always turning it off and on and having the ability to quickly see the status was very helpful. Now it's either mouse up to the menu (and there's no keyboard shortcut to pop open the menu is there?) to check, or do my edits and hope that it's in the state I need at that moment. If not, undo, change status, re-edit.  One of the things that is far worse in X1 compared to previous versions.

I like sonar X1 but this is definitely sonmething I would like reinsated too.

Is there a hotkey for this in X1 that I've missed? I'm still learning some of the new short cuts. Still not used to J being the scrub key! Oh well. Still, I'm happy overall, it's lovely misxing with pro channels and channel strips ;-)

Please listen to my band's new (post-prog rock?!) songs at www.reclaimmusic.com all produced using sonar X1!!

    Hi guys....

    +1 on this....

WHAT'S MORE.... it's not only that specific tool missing, they (old tools buttons) are ALL missing...!
(...think of "aim assistant", midi "magnifier", ALL tools in PRV, just to mention a few
     now missing...!)

Forget about silly hotkeys.....  it's no real solution....

What we need is dear old "one-click" features and their immediate, constant VISUAL FEEDBACK... which ONLY buttons (like in hardware...) can give....

They MUST come BACK to SONAR, otherwise X1 will be, at least far as this aspect, a poorer version of classic SONAR....

    This is URGENT fix needed....!!!!

I agree we need to be able to see the status of "auto crossfade" easily.

I also go in and out of this a lot, and it's a nuisance to have to go find it in the menu to see if it's "on" or not.

Yup. I brought this up as the first thing I really miss.

FWIW, I've requested Benstat to add this to Sonar Plus. Hopefully he's able to do it :)

If there is a hot key, benstat can probably add it to Sonar Plus... We'll have to wait and hear from him...

I don't use this button at all myself (previously), but I agree that the missing visuals are most disturbing as they made a lot of info more visible/close at hand.

A great one for me is panup's mod of the Snap Module in the control bar so that it's by/to status is displayed and obvious! That one is a big one for me...

Just one of many useful button/indicators they took away from us or hid in  less-convenient locations.

Like the maximize button and the phase and interleave indicator/toggles in the track headers. The grid snap buttons on the toolbar and the PRV. The CC-edit toggle in the PRV. The track-picker button in the PRV.

And now the only way to see the Freeze, Read, Write and Archive indicators when a track is minimized is to stretch the track header 1/3 of the way across the screen, thanks to the new Edit Filter dropdown that has been inserted in the middle of the track header buttons.

At least they left our keyboard shortcuts alone! Oh, wait - no, they shuffled those around, too. And did not import our custom shortcuts from 8.5. Well, at least give 'em credit for not making any improvements to the clunky keybinding dialog.

My sincere hope is that they'll figure out ways to bring some of these things back in the next major release. Make them optional if they're afraid of cluttering up the new cleaner look with all these "unnecessary" buttons.

    Hi BF...

I've been screaming about these issues since it's release (X1)... and I hope it's made enuf of an impression that along with many others very outspoken users The Bakers are busy act correcting this stuff...

In the meantime, there's benstat's Sonar Plus which brought back most of the tools I need and then some... and Panup who along with his color mods, changed the snap module in the control bar so that it now displays to/by very obviously... there's still room for improvement or should I refer to it as fixing what ain't broke....?

It was a nice idea to add the ui change (for multi monitor users I'm guessing it's wonderful), but not at the cost of so many lost and bungled things along with it. I think they decided that anyone worth having as a customer must be using large widescreens and multi-monitor systems.... They decided that market was more immediate than the work-a-day people sitting with a single ordinary monitor...

    X1c? We'll see.............!

    BTW BF...

You can change the order of the widgets in the track header so that the stupid edit filter isn't between the buttons... that helps a little, but the new button format along with the new groupings and lack of ability to change them still put a huge price on screen real estate.. I now waste almost helf of my screen width to display enuf controls for me to work... I guess I'm becoming too poor to be a valued Sonar user as I only work with a single 19" monitor (not widescreen)

Keni, I see an option to restore the default control order, but it's not obvious how to customize it. What's the trick?

And you're not alone with the 19" screen. An awful lot of SONAR users are on laptops with 17" displays.

An awful lot of SONAR users are on laptops with 17" displays.

I seem to recall someone from Cakewalk saying that part of the X1 UI update was to improve the situation on smaller displays. I can kinda see that, since it's really easy to show/hide (well, almost hide) the dock, control bar, browser, and inspector.  And while my main work is on dual 23" 1920x1200 displays, I do occasional stuff on a 15" laptop on a display that's  I-can't-remember x what-was-that-again resolution.  It wasn't too bad as far as real estate goes... but I'd still prefer the 8.5 track view with X1's easy show/hide dock etc. And then only if when hidden they were truly gone without leaving behind that useless stripe that just wastes precious display space.

    Hi SCorey....

You are right, but maybe, IMO, the issue is in the word "part" of the X1 update...

...as now, other "parts" made it worse, instead...

...like Control Bar Modules, as they are mostly "off-screen" on smaller displays.... (and even on those not so smaller... indeed...)

...very URGENT fix is the ability to have them all visible, at WILL, at ONCE, otherwise useless.....!!!!

Even better using benstat's Sonar Plus which can actually hide the multidock for those of us who NEVER use it.... I've already floated the Broswer so that it acts more like the old synth rack and I've gotten used to the Inspector's waste of space when not open.... Getting better...

Now if they would re-size/un-group buttons for the track headers and GET RID OF THE EDIT FILTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You making a great case for why being able to customize the modules in the toolbar is so important. Half of the items in the toolbar modules I'd like to remove and replace with items that have been eliminated totally from X1. We should have the freedom to choose our own clutter or lack of clutter, like we had in 8.53. In 8.53, I have only what I want to see.

Another oversight is there is no display of overwrite and sound on sound for midi recording. This is the first version of Sonar that they forgot to add that.

    Hi gmp....

    ...you are definetely right.....

...I laugh when some people here claim that we are just "few" users complaining about the new GUI tools' cut...

...truth being we are VERY MANY....  and more will come, past the physiological initial enthusiasm FOR X1...

...there are too many tools missing in X1 because hidden/moved/removed, while they were among the STRONGEST points in previous SONAR versions....

...in the meanwhile, as someone already remarked, CAKEWALK may lose quite a few OLD (accustomed) customers, by the way....

...surely not desirable, still quite predictable, as it's ALREADY happening, indeed....

...'course we hope the best (which means some nice dear old workflow fixing back...)
