USB soundcard recommendation

Hello,

A friend of mine (no kidding )  is installing a Cakewalk product on her laptop and is not sure what soundcard would be best.
I told her i use the EMU 0404 (but mine is not USB) so not sure how much help i'd be trying to figure out their USB version.
I've been reading a few threads here about this and i see that Robert recommended "M-Audio, or possibly the Cakewalk/Roland UA25".   Would the EMU 0404 2.0 USB be much different (or more difficult)  then these two recommendations?
I haven't  done a price comparison yet but will do shortly.

Thank you (i asked what her system is but haven't heard back yet).

Rick

the EMU0404 USB is a good soundcard, but the software is not the same as the PCI "Patchmix" software - it's much simpler to use.

check my website for other soudncard recommendations.

    Thanks, Beag.
She's using Sonar X1 Essential.  Does that come with VS100?  If so that would make things much easier.

Most decent USB audio/midi interfaces will work fine.

The most important thing is to be sure the features are what she is looking for.  Number of inputs, number of outputs, phantom power, software front panel (DSP) , all those sorts of things.

Oh yeah... and the price too.

    Thanks Herb,

I just read up on the Edirol UA-25EX (the unit Robert recommended) and it sounds like a nice unit  for USB.

I'm not sure what software comes with the VS-100, X1 essential might come with it.  you'd just have to look.
