need help with sound effects and mixing
i finished recording a couple of songs and now im looking to mix them down as well as add effects. im using mc5 and i want a computer like voice effect on certain words in my chorus( u know the kind of effect that makes u sound like a chip monk or as deep as darth vader) but i can seem to find it. i also have mc4 and it has this type of effect but when i tried to pull up the song using that program it tells me some effect arent compatible and if i save anything some data could be lost! i also could use a couple pointers on clarity and overall balance-any and all suggestions will help-thanks

you can't find an FX like that because it costs money for that kind of FX. you're wanting to "autotune" the vocals. you can buy "Autotune" or Melodyne or you can upgrade to Sonar X1 Studio or Producer and get v-vocal, but there's nothing in MC that will really come close to what you want. the error message is simply saying that there's a FX in MC5 that you don't have in MC4. you can resolve that by making MC4 scan for the new VST's added by MC5.

Look up GLITCH on your search engine. It's a free VST that might do what you want.... it has lots of cool things in it.

It's a Vocoder the OP is looking for, I guess, if it's "computer like" (=robotic?). Darth Vader-type-of-sound can't be made with a vocoder. TAL-Vocoder is a free one, too IIRC, but Glitch could have a few tricks in its sleeve.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

This little jewel used to be free, and they might have a free version somewhere on this site HERE. I grabbed a free version when I first saw it about a year back. It uses MP3 files, but..... you can easily convert the "beats" to mp3 import it into this baby, and change the tempo or the key with a simple click or two, then save it and send it back to cake.....waaaa laaaaa...faster beat. I didn't like it too much because to my ears, and on my studio speakers, I didn't like the way it sounded. The quality was much lower then the original..... IIRC there were some artifacts left over as well. BUT... it was a very easy conversion.
