bloody crossfade!!
How do I turn the option to auto crossfade my audio clips off. Whenever they overlap it crossfades automatically.

There are a few ways to enable/disable that feature. You can use the Automatic Crossfades button in the Toolbar. Click the big button to enable/disable. Click the little arrow to change the Crossfade default curves.
You can also enable/disable Automatic Crossfades by pressing x on your keyboard.

Ain't that annoying?
Options -> Global -> Editing -> Crossfade audio clips on overlap
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Don't overlap. Place clips on separate tracks for better control of timing, envelopes,....
