Rode NT-5 Matched Pair Stereo Mics Test

Here is a ditty I recorded while testing out the NT-5's. The guitars are recorded using the matched pair of mics. I got bored with it so I threw in some fiddles too.

P.S.   I have a Royer R-101 on the way so I'll be testing that out soon!!!!

Hi Scott, this sounds very nice and clean, guitars do sound a bit thin but than again they leave enough room when the fiddle kicks in.

    Greetings, Rik

    Hi Rik,
Thanks for checking it out. The small diaphragm does produce a much thinner and crisper tone than the large ones do, that's for sure.

What stereo config did you use? I have debated buying the NT5s. Right now I use 2 Rodes on a stereo mic bar (one is an NT1 and the other is an NT1000a - so obviously not stereo matched). I normally put one around the 12th fret and one on the bridge side of the sound hole.

Can't wait to hear recordings with the Royer!

    Hi Dave,
I have the NT-5's on a stereo bar aimed just like you have yours aimed.
The Royer is due to arrive today or Monday. I can't wait either!

Thanks, Vicente!  like the clarity that these mics offer also, but they tend to be on the bright side so I don't use them on violin or mandolin...acoustic guitar only.

Bass line is understated Scott. Nice! If you get spoiled by the Royer and wanna rid yerself of those NT5's..lemmee know. Was the acoustic used a Taylor?

Thanks Larry but I think I'll hang onto these mics for now. Is the bass line that bad? Sorry. Yes the guitar is a Taylor. Being a Taylor snob I have 4 of them and no other brand of acoustic. Is there any other brand?

Oh, whew! That's a relief on the bass line.   You need to tell Flo that you can never have enough stuff !!!!

    I agree with Larry...cool bass line!  :)

And did anyone ever tell you you play quite well?  Well, you do. This was a pleasure to listen to.  As always.  If I had all the time in the world, I'd love to do more collabs.

Thanks Robby. I like the NT-5's a lot. They give a lot of space and dimension to a recording.
