IK Multimedia Freebie

Ok, I got my ARC yesterday (so far it's eye opening!!!).  Now I have to decide which freebie to get and I could use some feedback on some things.

Classic Reverb - I don't have any 3rd party reverbs.  I mainly use Perfect Space for just about everything.  Is this reverb worth it?  is it better than PS, different?  what?  will I put it in my mixes and go, "WOW!  why didn't I buy this years ago?"  is it best used on any particular type of instrument or bus?  is it good on vocals?  I'm leary about an expensive reverb like this when I have PS and it seems to have been providing good enough results so far.

SampleMoog - I've never had a Moog, but I've always loved the sound.  but will it fit in my genre?  I mainly do Contemporary Christian music (if you don't really know what that is, then don't think "gospel" or "hymns" - think more of a cross between "pop" and "rock").  sometimes I do some blues or classic rock, but MOSTLY CC.  This looks like a comprehensive package, but I've never even used a Moog myself, so would it really be worth it?  I don't know.

T-Racks 3 Standard - I already have the T-Racks Standard compressor, so this would only get me the Multiband Limiter, the Clipper and the EQ.  I already have Ozone.  do I need more mastering tools?

you'll notice a lack of Amplitube or Sampletank or Miroslav or others on this short list, here's why:
I'm not a guitarist, I'm a vocalist and a keyboardist.  I have the free Amplitube and the NI Guitar Rig 4 that came with X1, so I think I have enough amp sims to get me by.  any guitarist I record is going to want his own amp or FX or ampsim anyway.  same boes for Ampeg - I'm not a bassist, any bassist I record will have their own sound.
Miroslav - I'm vaugely interested but I already have Kontakt and don't even use the orchestral sounds in Kontakt much.
I dont have a full version of Sampletank - I have Sampletank SE and LE or whatever from some expansion tanks, but I almost never use ST because I love Kontakt.  I thought about getting the full ST XL, but I'm not sure I'd use it.  and I want something I will USE!

SonikSynth2 or Sampletron - yeah, maybe.  they would be cool - but I'm not sure I'd use them.  I want something that I will use.

Stealthplug is the bane of troubleshooting with cakewalk.  I'd never allow one in my house.  anything below that price point seems a "waste" of a good free discount!

so - sorry for the lengthy post, but can you give me some insite on these?

Given those choices, if it were me I'd plump for the 'verb.

I'm not a fan of 'sampled' synths as they kind of defeat the object of using a synth, and like you say you'd get a lot of overlap with the T-Racks bundle.

I've only heard good stuff about the Classic 'verbs.

+1 for the reverb. It'll complement PerfectSpace nicely.

SampleMoog, meh. If you really need that classic sound, get a proper synth instead, not a collection of samples. T-Racks alongside Ozone would be redundant.

SonikSynth2 might be surprisingly useful, though. I got it just because it was part of a bundle and didn't expect much from it, but it's turned out that I do use it fairly often.

Hey Beag. I'm ordering ARC Monday, and have been wondering about the freebie, but I'm going for the verbs as well. I use PS  90% of the time, but sometimes I just can't seem to find the right verb with it. From everything I've read, CSR may just be the answer to that problem.

The 'verb is good, but prepared to do some tweaking, as it's of the "lots of controls" variety and you get much better results if you make use of them.

CSR sounds like what would best suit you. SampleMoog is another great collection of Trons and not a synth in anyway. You can read more about it in the review I wrote a ways back.

I'd recommend the Sample Moog. If you haven't had a pressing need for another reverb in such a long time, why would you need one now? Sample Moog on the other hand will give tones of interesting soundscapes to explore. Reverbs are  psychoacoustic - Nothing particularly amazing about them - but you miss them when they're not there.

But Trons aren't synths. Back in the old days before we had luxuries like workstations, flash memory and hard drives people tried to make workstations using tape. So imagine a big stand up piano-like workstation. You could pick a patch/sound and you would hit the keys and tape would play back rough made recordings of instruments. Violins, drums, flutes, horns

Before the Motif, Triton and Fantom there were Chamberlins and Mellotrons. They, much like today’s workstations, had a wide range (well at least for that day and age) of sounds recorded to tape reels on each key. When you pressed a key it played the tape of which ever samples were on the tape. They took sounds like strings, flutes, brass, choirs and made them sound beautiful with analog tape! At the time of their release people were very impressed by being able to play many sounds from one keyboard like instrument. Now because all these sounds were recorded and played on tape, and being how tape can wear out and be affected by things like temperature, humidity and even abuse these were very expensive and very fragile. Because of this these are very hard to find or fix and much harder to get one in working order! It is these types of vintage sampler/playback devices made famous by The Beatles, Yes, Genesis, Kanye West and Beck that have become known as “trons”

Obi, I have no problem with a sampled Chamberlin or Mellotron, since those were samplers to begin with and though they have a distinctive sound they offered an extremely limited tonal palette. Consequently, nothing is lost in translation except the headaches of notoriously fragile mechanical devices. They sound just as nasty as the originals.

My advice to Beagle was regarding SampleTron SampleMoog [thanks Glyn Barnes] and all the other sampled synths out there. It's like those crappy little boxes of crayons you get at House of Pancakes, with four colors in them and one of them is Peach.

It looks like you've made you're choice beagle-I wanted to chime in and raise my voice for the classic CSR verbs as well. I have gone back to many of the songs that I am working on and scraped perfect space and replaced it with the ik multimedia verbs. Gold plate 1&2 are great. I'm not much of a tweeker and these presets work for me on both male and female vocals 75% of the time. I just pull back on the mix-adjust reverb time and I'm good ta-go.

SampleTron is one softsynth that I spend a lot of time experimenting with but end up hardly ever using.  I like the sounds, but none of them ever seem to be suitable for whatever I am working on.  I've lost count of the number of times that I have added SampleTron to a project and then later deleted it.

I can understand that. 'tron sounds have a special charecter that won't always fit. I find similar issues with some synths/ sample sets.

I have always loved that sound since being blown away by Blue Weaver's Mellotron playing on the Strawbs track "New World" In my own feeble attempts at retro progressive rock I use Mellotron sounds a lot. I have some nice string libraries but more often than not I fall back on 'tron strings because they fit my music better.

I like to use SampleTrons strings and a few other patches in the background of songs, kinda like pads to fill in the space.
