And the winner is....
The winner is: All three! My new DAW that Jim Roseberry at Studio Cat built is running flawlessly, X1 is doing just fine, and so is Pro Tools 9. I've given things reasonable use this first week. X1 has not crashed. Not once. I have seen NO BUGS. NOT ONE. I really don't get the negativity here about X1. As much as I love Pro Tools, I truly believe that SONAR X1 is the best program on the market today. (And please....no one needs to correct me and mention than PT 9 is not the same as PT HD.) X1 wins hands down with editing in my opinion. Maybe I'm missing some key feature in PT, but I can slice and dice and paste and splice much easier in X1. X1 wins hands down with plugins. No contest. X1 is far better at importing audio. PT crashed once this week, and it was when I was trying to import audio. The import audio pulls up a fancy screen with a lot of gizmos and jargon, but I'll be dang if I've figured out why half of it is even there to start with. X1 is a breeze at importing audio. I don't believe in bashing anyone or anything at on line forums, and I still love PT. To my eyes it has a cleaner and more attractive GUI. I prefer the PT plugin bin arangement also. I prefer the PT gain adjust. I prefer the PT "add track" feature that lets you add multiple tracks at one time. And so on. I do think it has the cleanest and sharpest looking GUI on the market. But in a side by side comparison I think X1 does a lot more. X1 has been more stable and I just haven't seen a glitch yet. X1 has much better plugins. X1 has a much better "import audio." X1 is much easier for me to edit with. And there is really no comparison between the number of extras it has as compared to PT. I still prefer the PT GUI, keyboard shortcuts, and the way the effects (plugins) bins are set up. For the most part I like every thing else about X1 better. Again, I can't understand all the negativity about X1. I have only had X1 a week, and maybe the first version had some glitches. But what I'm running is working flawlessly. It has all the updates and I'm running it on a new i7 machine, and I'm sure that is a factor. But I just cannot see how anyone could not like this program. Check your machine and see if it fits the specs for X1. If so, and if a free trial download is available, then try it. You can always keep 8.5. I have it too. I am running 8.5 and PT M-Powered on my old machine. After a full week X1 gets an A+. Don

Hello Don, Just FYI that you can indeed add multiple tracks to a SONAR project. Just right slick in the Tracks pane and select Add Multiple Tracks. Then choose how many and what type from the pop-up window. SP

JustGotPaid I prefer the PT "add track" feature that lets you add multiple tracks at one time. And so on. I do think it has the cleanest and sharpest looking GUI on the market. But in a side by side comparison I think X1 does a lot more. Don I am not sure if you just prefer the method or missed the Add multiple tracks in X1. Just in case you just missed it, its under the main INSERT menu - Multiple tracks and you can select any number and type of tracks and their destinations/sends etc as well.

Seth Perlstein [Cakewalk ] Hello Don, Just FYI that you can indeed add multiple tracks to a SONAR project. Just right slick in the Tracks pane and select Add Multiple Tracks. Then choose how many and what type from the pop-up window. SP Either you have a different version or I am not seeing so good. Or am I misunderstanding what the track pane is. I see insert Audio, insert Midi, insert from template but no insert multiple tracks. (X1b build 255 x64)

I re-read that, and am sorry for the confusion. I should have said that I like the way PT has it arranged more than I do in X1. Neither is really better, but I just prefer the PT workflow of Track > New and then dial in what you want. The way its done in PT is just my personal preference.

No reason to be sorry. I just thought you might not have been aware that SONAR had that feature.

Ok, now I see it if I do it in the empty space. Different menu in Track header which is where I was clicking. Thank you Seth. Don, I had the same thought as Seth, that you may not have been aware, which is why I posted as well. However, the outcome was good as I learned something again from the process.

...and... once again.......... ...that's why the "old" insert track/s tool button in v8.5 was WAY better than any menu or any other hidden click feature.............! Give us customizable toolbars BACK or make Contol Bar modules customizable....!!! That would ACTUALLY make SONAR X1 win ANY contest..... hands on...............!
