no audio sound

I'm using a Presonus FP10 interface that I've used for a year now, and it's worked fine.   I recently got a new computer, but kept the Presonus.

I bought a new mic and wanted to try it out.   I plugged it in to my interface, set the Input to "Stereo FirePod ASIO x64 Input 7L" and Output to "FirePod ASIO x64 S/PDIF Output 7L."   I pushed Record on the track.

I do not get any volume whatsoever.   I tried another mic.  Same thing.  No volume in the meter, no sound out of the speakers.    (MIDI works fine though.)  Why isn't Audio working?   Am I not doing the I/O correctly?

What else is on the list for outputs? When you record do you get a waveform but just can't hear it or you don't even have a waveform?

Ehh... I do not know anything about this Presonus interface, but is there any special reason you choose the S/PDIF Output? Do you have a D/A converter hooked on the S/PDIF output - like a basic digital amplifier or active boxes with S/PDIF input?

Otherwise you have to choose a analogue output on your Presonus (if available).

I might be wrong here tough. As I said - I never used this interface, but it just caught my eye..

That's all I have on the list for outputs.    No, I don't get a waveform.   No sound coming in or going out.

Not sure what a D/A converter is.   All I have is my interface going into my computer.

    Thanks!

Are you sure you selected the ASIO driver? There should be a Line out or Headphone out (or something like that) visible. If you only see the S/PDIF output there is definitely something wrong.

Do you have any driver hardware panel icon or something sitting on your taskbar? I mean - did you have the drivers installed an configured before starting up Sonar?

If you are jumping from Windows XP to Windows 7  a few things come to mind.

Did you ever had any sound with another program besides Sonar using ASIO from the Presonus after hooking it up on your new computer? I mean - did the Presonus ever functioned after you got your new computer? You can try this out with a progam using ASIO, like the stand alone version of Kontakt player, Audacity or Independence free or something...

Are you sure you using the latest drivers? The website says only the latest drivers support Windows 7, so the drivers from the old install disk are defenately NOT capable of supporting the hardware under Windows 7!

Do you have a Texas Instruments based firewire interface? If you are using a on-board firewire check the specs of your motherboard. It is known other chipsets can give weird results..

As I said - I never used this interface, but this are just a few common things you should check out...

I found out that the problem is with my Presonus FP10 interface.   On inputs 1 and 2, I get a strong signal.   But on inputs 3-8, I have to crank the volume knob in order to get a little volume out of it.

I installed the latest drivers, so I don't know what the issue is.   But at least the issue is not Sonar X1.

    Thanks for your help!
