FastBikerBoy Great vid Scott. Only one mistake. You said it's much easier to do in X1. Obviously as several users on here already know, nothing is easier in X1........... Thanks, FBB! Ha! I guess I should have said that it's _my opinion_ that automation is easier in X1. Scott -- Scott R. ProjectM He he, yes, I've seen it in the Cakestore and also in a bookstore here in Oslo (the price was ridiculous). But buying a book like that in the "book format" is a sure way for me to not read it. I always put educational books on the shelf and that's where they stay. A digital version I bring with me everywhere. Good news about the Kindle version. A month or two? I'll try to wait. Ha! Yeah, I can understand that. The eBook edition is definitely more convenient when you're on the move a lot. It does also provide some additional features like clickable links and the ability to search. Thanks! Scott -- Scott R. Hey Scott, Great video, this is very useful. I did have a few comments/questions. This didn't work for me on a track with layers??? X1b. Is there a different procedure when working with layers? Also when a track envelope is used the faders no longer work. Is it possible to adjust track overall volume with a fader when there is a volume automation? I hope these questions make sense. I would also like to thank you for all your contributions to making CW a rocking DAW!!! Rock On, Kz http://www.reverbnation.com/kzmaier garrigus Scott Garrigus demonstrates how to apply automation to data selections using Cakewalk SONAR. Versions 8.5 (and earlier) as well as X1 (and later) are covered. In addition, some tips for working with automation envelopes are included. No, the same procedure should work when a track has multiple layers. But envelopes only work with entire tracks. You can't have more than one volume envelope per track, if that's what you mean. Press O on your PC keyboard to toggle Offset mode. This will allow you to adjust track parameters even if those tracks contain envelopes. The mode essentially allows you to apply an offset the envelope. Scott -- Scott R. Works on track with one layer. Wondering if its a bug?

Hmmm... not sure what to tell you. It works fine here. Make sure you are hovering your mouse over the lower portion of one of the layers to drag and make a selection. Then hover your mouse near the top of the track. Then click and hold the left mouse button to create the nodes, and while continuing to hold, drag up/down to create the envelope segment.
