Tapeworm (Mellotron VST) causes problems with ProChannel EQ

I've been experiencing a very strange problem with X1b that I think I've resolved, and I wanted to share the solution here.

The problem was this: In ProChannel, the EQ would only work in "Modern" mode. If you used the other two modes (Pure or Vintage), the audio was muted and the EQ curve graphics would disappear. After recreating, piece-by-piece, a project that had this problem, I discovered that it was associated with the Tapeworm Mellotron VST. If a Sonar project had Tapeworm inserted anywhere in the project, it would have the problem. Furthermore, any project that I opened after that project, regardless of whether Tapeworm was inserted, would have the problem too, at least until I restarted Sonar.

My solution was pretty simple: If I wanted to use Tapeworm in a song, I would record the part, freeze the track, and restart Sonar.

Needless to say, this issue was a real PITA to track down and I'm hoping that by posting this I might help someone out in the future. I have no idea whether there are other VSTs out there that will cause the same problem, but Tapeworm's the only one I've encountered so far.

Other than that, I'm really loving X1. My favorite version of Sonar so far, and I've been a loyal user since version 2. It crashes a little bit more for me than 8 did on XP, but actually crashes less than 8 did after I upgraded to Windows 7. I can't speak to 8.5, because I never made that upgrade.

Thanks for posting, but isn't it more of a workaround than a solution?

You should report this to CW tech support, so they can determine if it's a bug or not.

Thanks for the link. You are of course correct that it is a workaround, and not a solution. I'll report that bug to CS.

How the hell is something like that possible? So strange and complicated, the world of VST is......

It doesn't make sense to me either. Very strange. But it was repeatable, so I don't think it was a fluke.

I think I remember experiencing a few different issues and bugs with some of the freebies from that particular developer. Of course, w/ the variety of hosts and configurations out there, it'd be pretty lame to criticize.

Nevertheless, as an alternative - there are some awesome mellotron patches in IK's Sampletank Free.
